i just installed the latest version 15.57 after struggling with a lot of restarts on the previous one. One thing is the backup from my mk2i is mostly useless. half of the things were not restored. that is fine, not a big issue. But the biggest is that if you had it in one language - in my case i had the mk2i in bulgarian and restore it to the mk3i that is setup initially in english, you are due to a surprise. I had a lot of apps that were duplicates - one in english, the duplicate in bulgarian. and the dive apps you cannot remove. some of the apps have only one version in bulgarian. So now i am stuck with a mixture of mostly english named apps with several that are in bulgarian...
and now the spotify.. installed it several times - from connect iq on my iphone, from the mk3i itself. i always ended up to have the message open connect app on mobile to setup spotify and nothing. opened it, closed it - not a single prompt to login into spotify. simply impossible to use it at this moment.
The Amoled displays are so kiddy, childy, with all that animations and colours are more for children (I think) . PS - Will I be able play wolfenstein 3D on the smartwatch : ) or other games, solitaire ? : )
MIP isn't a good screen for SCUBA diving, it's designed to be sunlight readable and low energy. Diving is not in sunlight, so bright AMOLED is a better choice, given that Garmin watches don't need the extra battery power. These will last a week of diving between charges.
At least using MK3i as an universal watch for all activities plus diving , there will be only a 1-5% diving time between other activities and daily usage so this could be only a 1/20 - 1/100 of advantage from all.
I believe somebody is amoled positive , but there are many items with amoled , like cheaper series of garmin smartwatches and other marks like xiaomi, polar, ... but only a few with colour MIP. So I don't think that a competition with amoled in a ocean of amoleds is something interesting .
P.S. the biggest problem with amoleds are they possibilities :) manufacturers tend to overkill normal things with mindless animations, coloured bars, shadows, smiles, anything you can imagine. I think the young programmers will again try to make from a simple and good smartwatch an animated something for children. Sorry, but this is not ideal for a 50+ man who is spending 2000 USD for a smartwatch. And children will rather buy an cheap amoled for max 300 USD or go for a xiaomi with all that nicee animations and coloured lines and their next requirement will be playback of instagram videos on amoled smartwatch :)
yes I will agree with you
wearing back circle is not really nice as Garmin event blocked function gesture at least in current software version
and in dive activity in config always on was not available - didn't try to dive yes
but of rme it will be the same diving few days a year ant the rest using it as a watch + some activities during the week
so decided to send it back as black screen make me crazy back to my fenix6x :-(
waiting for MK3 with MIPS display
Sorry I have no confirmation of this as I am not sure anyone has been skiing with the Descent Mk3i. I will post an update in about 10 days time as to whether the Descent has the same issues as the & series 7.
Well, having a skiing map is not really the point. All GARMIN sports watches seem to have skiing maps, including my fenix5 and MK2i, but it is shocking that the MK3i does not have a dive sites map. I hope garmin development team can quickly find this bug and fix it as soon as possible. Just like u sayI use mk3I just for diving not for skiing.
Bit of clarification, but this isn't about updating to v5.00. They are not even installed on the device to begin with, there is no older version to update from. And since there seems to be some coding that prevents us from ticking/unticking the "required maps", we cant even choose it to be installed.
Hi Adam, I tend to agree with you. However, as I said in my post, it could be acceptable if you cannot hear properly an alarm because of very low volume while running or doing any other activity (evenif when I used my Epix 2, the sound was very good and during running I can hear the alarm when my heart beat reached the limit low / high or when I reached target distance); but if you don't get an alarm about DNL when you are at diving at -30meters (it happened to me) and even the vibration is not so strong to alert you (it happened to me), you risk your life... and this watch (mk3i) is a model dedicated and certified for diving!
Unfortunately there is not a way to adjust the volume or strength of the alert/vibration. This is not going to be a loud or stronger alert likely that what you see with the Epix gen2. However, if you are seeing this being noticeable weaker or quieter than the Epix gen2, this could indicate a problem.
First I would recommend installing the 16.25 SW update. You can use Garmin Express to do this. Then test to see if this issue still exists. If it does, I would recommend reaching out to Garmin Product Support.
I think it's HW, I also have the Tactix 7 along with the MK3i, and all generation of Apple Watch and Ultra. I think Garmin needs to put a stronger haptic chip in their watches, both Garmin's vibration are weak compare to Apple's, and Ultra has a very loud alarm.
I used MK3i for another diving at 33mtr, I basically looked at the watched every 2 minutes. I see the alarm when NDL reached 5/6 minutes on the screen but I could not feel any vibration ( I mean there is a vibration but I do not feel as it is very very soft).
Glad you mentioned you have the 51mm (mine's the 43) because I was wondering if the larger version had more room for a larger haptic vibration motor (if that's what it's called.?.?). Guess the 51's not any better. If internal component size/space is the issue with the Mk 3's, maybe Garmin could design an ancillary component that could house a better haptic/audio system that could be adjusted by the wearer (maybe something that can slide onto the watch band or a bracelet-like contraption). The audio could have a choice of frequencies and intensities to choose from (high pitches are fading as I get older:/ ) and the haptic motor can be adjusted based on exposure suit thickness. Just a thought.
So I noticed when I received my MK3i, that I am no longer able to change the alarms on my watch via the Connect app like I was on my MK2i. Am I missing something, or did that change with the new watch?
What I can say?
For me is quite opposite, I prefer to set alarm on my watch and I'm doing it since Fenix 3 I had.
For some reason Garmin changed it and it is like it is.
You could create new idea and post it on Garmin idea page here: www.garmin.com/.../
