FIN and FHIR Encounters

Hello,

We're leveraging the FinancialTransaction resource to post payments to Cerner, which requires a FHIR Encounter ID.

To get the FHIR Encounter ID, we're searching the Encounter resource with the FIN.

Here's the question: can a FIN ever be moved to a different encounter? Or does the relationship between a FIN and encounter never change?

Encounters can move from one patient to another, or be combined with another encounter. If an encounter is moved, the FIN would move with that encounter. If an encounter is combined with another encounter, the encounter should only keep one of the FIN numbers. There could be some variability with client configuration of FIN pools/aliases, so its best to confer with the client on their alias pool configuration.
