This is not an FHIR question. If there's a more appropriate forum please let me know. I couldn't find any.

Hello,

I work for a print management software company, and our aim is to help hospitals be HIPAA compliant by implementing secure print release with Cerner printing.

The idea is, when a user prints a document with PHI, the job does not just get printed immediately and left on a printer for potentially anyone to pick up. Rather, the user has to walk to the printer and login to release the job.
For this to happen, the print job has to be associated with the printed user information all the way to the printer.

Hence my questions.
1. Does Cerner associate a printed user with a print job for its backend printing?
2. If not, is an app in Millennium able to make that association? That is, get the username from an Millennium API and inject that to the print job?
3. If an app can do that, is there any documentation or other resources to help me start writing the app?
4. If an app can't, what are the other options I have?

Thanks.
Ranga

Hi Ranga,

Unfortunately, as you probably suspected, this forum is specific for Cerner's implementation of the SMART on FHIR specification. Those who monitor this group aren't going to know much about printing, and I unfortunately don't know where to direct you outside of logging an SR (if you are a client developer) or reaching out to a client if you are working with one.

Apologies,
Ben (Cerner)
