How to Find Encounter From Statement ID?

Hi,

I'm able to post a FinancialTransaction to an Encounter and the Guarantor Account Balance goes down like it should. 

However, I only know which Encounter to use from the test parameters GDoc.

In the real world, how would I know the Encounter ID for a given Statement, in order to post a FinancialTransaction to it and reduce the Guarantor Account Balance?

Thank you for your question. The Encounter resource supports an account search parameter. This would allow you to search for encounter resources by a given account resource. Please note that the account search parameter currently only supports searching by the financial-account type.

It sounds like your answer to my question "How to Find Encounter From Statement ID? " is "You cannot.".

What you're suggesting is to instead use the financial-account to find the encounter, but that won't be useful because I could have theoretically millions of encounters for a single financial-account. How would I know which one to post to?

Hi Anthony,

You could narrow down the encounters by matching the Account.servicePeriod of the guarantor-balance account type with the Encounter.period.

The Encounter resource now supports searching by guarantor-balance account types. This should make it easier for you to find the Encounters for payment for a given statement.
