Cerner is developing a series of enhancements to streamline the process for connecting successfully registered Consumer Apps with Providers’ Systems.

This information applies exclusively to registered Consumer Apps, which are applications that  are used by patients and their authorized representatives to access the patient’s health information and (ii) have been successfully registered with Cerner.  For information about how to register a Consumer App, see “Connecting a Consumer Access App”.

Initial Enhancements

As of October 1, 2021, connections between registered Consumer Apps and Providers’ Systems will be established upon the Consumer App developer’s request. Cerner provider clients may also request connections to Consumer Apps by following these directions. At this time, connection requests should be limited to those Provider Systems where the Consumer App has active users seeking to access their health information.

Future Enhancements

Cerner is working to fully automate the process of connecting registered Consumer Apps to Providers’ Systems. These enhancements will enable automatic connections between all registered Consumer Apps and active Providers’ Systems. Cerner will also make a list of active Provider System endpoints available in a machine-readable JSON format.

These enhancements are being completed as part of Cerner’s efforts to align with new Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) certification requirements introduced by the Cures Act final rule and will be rolled out during calendar year 2022.
