Hello,

We currently have a sandbox app (patient type), with a client ID b49c9131-cf8e-46b7-b5ec-746ec9a30c07, and based on the Product APIs available to this type of app, we can't use the workflow resources to schedule an appointment with a provider.

I was wondering if we might want to have a separate application (with a Provider App type or even a System app type), that would support the main one by including the scheduling flow. If that is the case, do we actually need two separate apps - can't we just use one with a type "System app"? Please advise.

Also, if there are any guidelines on how to create the app, and which one to create for a specific use case (https://engineering.cerner.com/smart-on-fhir-scheduling-tutorial/#introduction - this is the only resource that I've come across), I will appreciate you sharing these.

Thanks,
Levon

Hello Levon,

Yes, you can use a System App for scheduling Appointments.
You can complete all the flow using System App or use a combination of Patient and System App.
The added benefit provided by a Patient App would be, the patients would be leveraging their portal credentials to log into the Application, whereas if you do only System App, you would be responsible for all login functionality.

Thanks,
Fenil

Fenil,

Thanks for the follow up on this matter.

We've decided to go the two-apps path (patient app + system app), however, was wondering, if I possibly need to add the Redirect URIs to the Backend app. I currently don't have such permissions, and assume that's because it is simply not needed. I will appreciate your confirmation on this!

Thanks,
Levon

B2B/System Apps do not require a redirect URI.
