Cerner team, I have a question regarding login workflow when working with EHR launch SMART on FHIR apps (browser based provider app).

Let’s say we have an app that will be launched from with PowerChart.

Step 1. Physician logs into Millennium, search for patient named John Doe and start viewing his lab results.

Step 2. Physician launches the SMART on FHIR app from within PowerChart. This app takes result values and provides a more enhanced view with some further clarifications. Also, in this step we want to capture patient MRN.

Step 3. We open another connection and connect with HIE to pull results from HIE on John Doe utilizing the MRN that we captured in Step 2.

My question is when physician launches SMART on FHIR app from within Millennium PowerChart (Step 2), would he be asked to login again to Cerner FHIR server or his original sign-on to Millennium PowerChart is sufficient?

Basically, we know physician will have to sign in when retrieving data from HIE for Step 3. But we want to make sure physician doesn’t have to sign-in for Step 2 when he initially launches EHR embedded SMART on FHIR app.

For step 2 I would think the app should launch from within patient context without asking the physician to login again, but would like to confirm.

Thanks,

Imran

Hi Imran,

No he they not have to sign in again if the app is launched from PowerChart. See also: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/cerner-fhir-developers/3JxgDfpqeQI/qVm1CCpKAgAJ
