Youcan have a go at putting these into the Content Filter within the router (best to use firmware 7 and above), if you have a higher end network device, then the there are more categories to help so you may not need to enter all of the domain you find from the above search results.
With such low bandwidth, another options is to only allow access to what they need for the business such as email server, document server, in house servers.
Be aware that if using certain software (such as office 365) they need to frequently verify the licence online or the software becomes either restricted or locked out.
Just as an FYI, I found a list of domains to block to block Windows Update. Only tested on Windows 10 service pack 1909. There may be a domain or two that is not necessary in the list, but the list, as is, works. From here
I don't have Windows 10 yet, so I can't try it for myself, but I thought that if I edited the hosts file and pointed
update.windows.com (or whichever URL update uses) to an invalid IP address, that would effectively block Windows from seeing if any updates are available until the line was commented out.
Note: I don't consider this question to be a duplicate of Stopping all automatic updates Windows 10 as it's asking about a certain method. I understand it could be an answer to that question, but I couldn't post it as one without knowing if it works.
Sick and tired of Microsoft Server 2016 downloading Microsoft Updates and rebooting production servers whenever it damn well likes. Thinking of skipping trying to prevent this from the server itself, and just blocking access to those update servers at the firewall. Have an MX64 with the Advanced Security License - what is the best way to go about trying to block updates just for the server, while keeping them available for the desktops/laptops? My thinking is that whatever I use to block it on the router, I could just turn that off once a month when I choose to schedule the updates to be done.
Is there a way to see what's actually blocked by the "Deny Software Updates" rule? Is there a list of URLs or something we can look at to see what actually gets blocked if we apply that rule? I'm trying to figure out if it will break any other software that I might want to continue updating or not.
I think it is a really bad idea to block Windows Updates ... you would be better off creating a group policy to change the servers to "prompt only" to do updates, rather than automatically download and install. Security Updates are usually fairly important.
I agree with @PhilipDAth as annoying as they can be sometimes you are better to change the Windows update settings than stop them completely. Security updates help prevent things like ransomware and the last thing you want is a ransomware attack to happen on your watch because you blocked security updates.
There is probably a more sophisticated way of doing this - but this command line will make Windows scan for new updates, and then install them. So you can run this using task scheduler whenever you want.

You may want to consider, rather than blocking all updates, managing updates with WSUS. Assuming you have a copy of Windows Server and your clients are in a domain, it's a free option that you can use to only deploy updates when and where you want them.
Its simple go to start menu> control panel (view by small icons)>administrative tools > services. Search for Background intelligent transfer service and windows update ...stop the services and on properties disable them
Glass block windows came into fashion around the early 1900s as a durable and insulating way to let natural light into factories. We still use them today: not only for windows, but also for walls and skylights.
Glass block windows should never be used in any load-bearing capacity. They may not break immediately, but given enough time they will start cracking, which is a safety hazard and an expensive mess to clean up.
Additionally, glass block windows are quite heavy, so you would also need to inspect the floor under the area, and possibly add structural support boards underneath. The weight of a glass block wall or large window could cause the floor to sink, warp or even collapse.
Many assume that the cloudy or frosted nature of a glass block is enough to block out the view for passersby, only to find out after the costly and time-consuming installation that the neighbors have been getting a peep show.
If you live in an area where the summers are very hot, such as the Midwest, you may wish to reconsider putting glass block windows in your home. Glass blocks absorb and transfer the heat very well, turning your room into a greenhouse.
my reading of that rule is it will allow downloads during work hours. What sites does your report show as being passed? The site classification might not be correct because not all MS sites are classified. One complaint is that MS keeps adding new sites (URLs).
Then Schedule your windows machine with a time within the time of the schedule rule. So for example set firewall rule time for 2:00 am to 4:00 am. Set windows machine to update within those times. not sure if this is a solution to your problem.
We have a need to prevent windows update traffic to flow thru our network on certain dates. Basically this type of traffic will clog our mpls bandwidth preventing other type of traffic to flow. We are using up to some part QoS on out routers but it not working all the time. Eg, we put in ip address of one windows update server but updates are pulled of the other, then you enter second ip and updates are coming from third, etc.
That is my chalenge; i cannot block http or Native FTP because other business applications are using these protocols. I was wonderign to use regex-type of policy that will look for *
microsoft.com* and block all related to this. For dates that i need to implement the policy i am not concern about web access to anything
microsoft.com. How is regex used within WSA? Sorry i am new to WSA.
Hi there,
what is the suggested method to block windows & apple updates on OpenWRT?
I have a list of well-known URLs which could be used for this...
Got this, but might be outdated Blocking websites on your router
If you block Win 10 and Microsoft you will probably have other problems after a while since the subcription demands server uplink to verify the license for piracy protection and if the computer is offline to long it will get blocked until verified.
If you remember from my first post about our windows, I had Universal Windows Direct give me an estimate for every single window in our home. They offer a price lock guarantee, per window, for up to two years. So if you need to do your entire home in phases, as we are doing, they will honor that original estimate.
Then, they grabbed the new windows, fit them in place, and added spray foam to the edges to fill any cracks and make sure everything was sealed tightly. In just a few hours, the ugly glass block was gone and our new beautiful basement windows were installed.
Also, be on the lookout for deals throughout the year. I know Universal Windows Direct currently has a buy one window, get one window free promotion, along with zero interest and zero payments for 24 months. So there are always financing options if you need them!
Hellow to everyone, the same thing happened to me, does anyone had found the solution to exit the block editing without using unlock?? Since I have a lot of information as reference below the things I am redrawing and they are not grouped, so at the time I use unlock all the information would get mixed!
Same issue here - This happens to me very frequently and it is annoying. I am pretty sure this has something to do with clicking the spacebar while trying to do other commands during the block editing. I noticed the edit panel goes away the moment I press the spacebar.
This blocks any way an Windows Home version can enroll in Intune. If you need other types of devices to still enroll through Personally Owned you can create an Assignment Filter, see here: create-device-platform-restrictions
Noticed tiny cracks on the inside of the blocks, and have never seen this before. After a little research, found a manufacturer site that said using harsh cleaners like Tilex or ones with petroleum products could cause cracks over time and void the warranty.
It also says not to clean blocks in the hot sun (the window faces west)
So are you checking the framing and structure to make sure they are using lintels for support ?
In Chicago builders seem to think Glass Block is structural the idea of weaker plastic blocks makes me nervous ,not to mention the limited life.
