Hello team,

I am using Vocabulary Items to build a language course. I really like the Example Sentence feature because it gives students context for the words they're learning. I'm also including a translation for each of the Example Sentences as a prompt for the blank fill activities.

However I need some suggestions on how to format them. At the moment I have been inputting the translation like this:
sentence-input.png

It displays nicely enough when you're learning the card:

However when it comes to the typing activity, it strips out the = sign and the italics are replaced by "em" tags (likewise bold by "strong" tags).

Is there a quick fix for the display issue? Otherwise, is there a better way that I'm overlooking for including Example Sentence translations?

Thank you!

Hi Elliot,

Thanks for reaching out.

Instead of trying to put it all in one line, put the translation in the box immediately underneath, like this:

Top box: *Sunjka* kin he thewahila
Bottom Box: I love that dog

hope this helps,
John

Hmm. I tried using a break within the Example Sentence input. It shows fine in the preview but then the text displays all on one line during the learning and testing modes.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Rather than a line break, try the next box down. If you are not see a box that says
"Enter the sentence in your native language"

under the box that says

"Enter the sentence in the foreign language"

Click "x" in the upper right, go to edit details on the left, then change your

Thank you!

Yes, I wasn't seeing that box. I had the language set to "Other" (Lakota isn't in the list of languages, but that's not surprising :D)

I changed the language and native language sentence box has appeared.

However... now when I preview the item, it doesn't preview the "Fill in the Blank (with sentence prompt)" quiz any more. It just skips to "Preview completed".

Thanks for any other leads...

Yes, I am seeing that now as well. This looks like a bug. Possible temporary fixes for the problem while we work on it:
- restart on a new vocabulary item, and type exactly what you have in this item
- revert to the old settings that you had before (although this is less than ideal)

Okay, I'll restart with new items. Thanks for your help!
