Hi Ersin,

Unfortunately, at the moment Cerego's items are not well designed for typing symbols and syntax.  Just to explain why: At the moment they are designed for spoken languages, and users explicitly do not want to be quizzed on these characters as they are peripheral to the concept.  Additionally, we get content creators that copy / paste information from word or html, and we have found it important to strip out a lot of syntax so these don't end up mistakenly as fill-in-the-blank characters.

That said, your particular need is an important one, and we need to discuss internally how we can best meet it with our technology.  Perhaps it is a new item type.

One idea for you:  Our typing quizzes are not going to be functional for you at this time, however, I do think you could get a great learning experience if you use multiple choice with custom distractors.  You could make several very similar looking expressions to challenge your students.

Hope that is helpful, and know that we are going to discuss this request.

Best, Cerego!

Hey there, for my example the Vocabulary Item Style was best as it required you to type out the word/syntax.

I am creating a course under computer science which required the user to type in some syntax and symbols(characters that exist outside of the a-z, A-Z set) thus in the example like:

"a(bc+)"

Regex: match exactly the first character, and one or more of the second and third explicit character group

you would have to type in the letters the question would look like this " _ ( _ _+)" with the letters missing but the non alphabetic characters intact, thus it would ruin the attempt to have the learner learn the regular expression syntax because you should be typing in the quotes, brackets, and the plus sign along with the alphabetic letters.

Are there alternatives, can this be fixed?

I have also tried Passages Item Style but ran into the same problem.
