I'm writing in hopes that someone in newsgroup land can provide some
ideas for a problem that has been going on for many years and seems to
show no signs of improvement.
My significant other gets sick very often. Sometimes there will be a
couple months of relative wellness and sometimes 3-4 blocks over the
course of a month will be spent in bed. While she does suffer from
migraines, these seem to be seperate. The symptoms of the sickness
tend to include headache, nausea, weakness, and vomiting.
She has told me of all the different approaches she's taken in the
past and that it's been going on for as long as she can remember. She
has a great deal of skepticism, sometimes bordering on contempt, for
western medicine. She's been to many physicians about this sickness,
all of whom tell her that there's nothing wrong with her and that
maybe she should see a psychologist. The psychologists pass the buck
back to the doctors. She has tried many alternative approaches as
well, most recently Reiki and acupuncture. Reiki seemed to feel good
at the time, but provided no appreciable long-term effects. While the
first visit to the acupuncturist seemed fruitful, subsequent trips
havn't been so successful.
She does suffer from depression, occasional insomnia, light sleeping,
ADD, and lacks major coping mechanisms so that things like college
have a great ability to be debilitatingly stressful. She lives in a
very old house in the attic which is messy and has a couple critters
in the walls that the cats brought in, but she tells me that she had
these problems in the time she didn't live here, too.
She calls herself a hypochondriac in, I believe, the more slang
version of the word, but a lot of her actions point to the actual
disorder...although I've never heard of such intense existing repeated
sickness with actual severe symptoms in hypochondriacs before. I hope
this line of thought of mine doesn't lead anyone away from what they
were going to offer...
I just feel totally helpless and want to try to find some ideas. I
can't imagine a situation where someone who is literally throwing up
and nearly incapacitated so frequently could go so long undiagnosed
and untreated. The perpetual nature of it makes it a pretty difficult
subject to ask simple questions about. Again, any thoughts would be
appreciated.
Thanks groups.
