The AAD Shade Structure Grant Program awards grants of up to $8,000 to public schools and non-profit organizations for installing permanent shade structures for outdoor locations that are not protected from the sun, such as playgrounds, pools, or recreation spaces. 

 

 

 

Schools, Early Care and Education, and Out-of-School Time facilities nationwide are adopting the many benefits of shade structures, canopies, and sails, such as:

• Reduces children's risk of skin cancer, blocks 97% UV rays
• Significantly cooler temperatures, up to 25 degrees
• Extends the usage of outdoor play equipment
• Porous fabric releases hot air while cooling the shaded region

Eligibility requirements state that applicants must have a sun-safety program in place for at least one year prior to application. Access the AAD's free resources library for sun protection materials to support your program.

 

The deadline to submit an application is December 31, 2019. Winners will be announced in March 2020.
