Come out to PEAS Community Farm for tree care and maintenance education with lesson demonstrations with PEAS and Central Texas Mycological Society! Teachers (pre-K-12th), admin, and outdoor learning liaisons are welcome! Must RSVP and send $25 refundable/"donatable" deposit.
*AISD teachers will receive CEUs and this training may be PLED eligible upon Principal approval. We can provide certificates of completion for other districts.*
Join us for an interactive training where we'll show you how to confidently and creatively take your classes outside to care for your campuses trees with mushrooms and more!
You'll get to learn the ins and outs of tree care through soil and fungi health with Austin Davenport, Central Texas Mycological Society educator, and then explore lesson activity demonstrations for students of all ages with PEAS!

Lauren Zappone Maples - PEAS
Lauren Zappone Maples is the co-founder and Executive Director of PEAS. Since launching PEAS Community Farm at Cunningham Elementary in 2011, she has led the growth of the organization, a leading Central Texas nonprofit advancing outdoor, place-based, and edible education. A former Austin ISD teacher and environmental educator, Lauren is an multi-award winning educator/leader and co-author of the Easy PEASy Guidebook for Play-Based Outdoor Learning. Lauren loves that she regularly gets to design and facilitate professional learning experiences for educators across Texas!
Erin Magrath - PEAS
Erin Magrath is the Program Director at PEAS and a passionate advocate for equitable, inclusive education. A former AISD bilingual educator, Erin brings experience in social-emotional, culturally relevant, and creative teaching practices. She holds a Master’s degree in Education from Texas State University and is a co-author of the Easy PEASy Guidebook for Play-Based Outdoor Learning, with a strong background in supporting teachers through hands-on training and collaborative professional development.
Magda Hernandez - PEAS
Magda Hernandez is an Outdoor Education Specialist at PEAS with more than 20 years of experience in bilingual education serving students in grades K–5. She previously worked as a field trainer at the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk at UT Austin, where she implemented research-based curriculum and collaborated with teachers to strengthen instructional practices. Magda is deeply committed to helping learners of all ages reconnect with the joy and wisdom of nature, drawing on her ongoing studies in permaculture, herbalism, and land-based learning. She brings this holistic perspective into her work with students, educators, and the PEAS community.
Austin Davenport - Central Texas Mycological Society
Austin Davenport is a Central Texas educator and advocate for sustainable food systems and climate-resilient growing practices. Through hands-on workshops and garden coaching, Austin supports individuals in growing their own food. Austin also holds leadership roles with the Central Texas Mycological Society and the Central Texas Young Farmers Coalition, supporting cultivation education, soil stewardship, and farmer training across the region.
