Hi Everyone,

I wanted to make sure I shared with you all the latest information on the conference that a number of us Public Innovators are working on bringing to Austin. It’s right up our alley as PI’s

It’s called the National Conference on Dialogue and Deliberation and it’s happening here Oct. 2-5. Check out the details below and see if it might be of interest to you or someone in your organization or community groups you’re involved with. Feel free to send it on to others, and let me know if you have questions.

Hope to have a chance to connect with you all soon!

National Conference on Dialogue and Deliberation
Creating Cultures of Collaboration

October 3 - 5, 2008
Austin, Texas

Today’s communities are challenged by polarizing, often intractable conflicts – yet people too often lack the tools to engage in respectful, civil discourse regarding differences in values, beliefs, politics and other issues that divide us.

If you think we can do better, and you’d like to find new ways to solve tough problems, join hundreds of others who believe that better communication is the key to addressing the critical issues facing organizations, communities, and society.

The National Conference on Dialogue and Deliberation (NCDD) will take place in Austin, Texas on October 3 – 5, 2008. This biennial event brings together people from diverse backgrounds - ffacilitators, mediators, public leaders, activists, students, educators and “world-changers” – who share the common interest of creating better relationships and results through honest talk, quality thinking and collaborative action.

The conference will include:

  • Dozens of workshops offering best practices and the latest innovations in community building, group process and communication methods.

  • Interaction with many of the leading figures in the dialogue and deliberation field – featured speakers include Bill Issacs, Frances Moore Lappé, Jim Fishkin, Carolyn Lukensmeyer, and David Campt.

  • Highly participative plenary sessions that will explore the rich terrain of inter-religious, inter-generational and inter-partisan communication.

  • Unique experiences with large-group dialogue and deliberation methods, as well as creative expression through visual and performing arts.

In addition to the three-day conference, there are a number of high-quality pre-conference workshops on October 2nd and a two-day post-conference workshop on using dialogue techniques for the rebuilding of communities recovering from disaster.

You will leave NCDD with new skills and practical methods that you can use immediately to elevate the quality of discourse around conflict, encourage civic involvement and promote collaborative and thoughtful problem solving around organizational and societal issues.

If these are issues you care about, join us in Austin for the
National Conference on Dialogue and Deliberation, Oct. 3 - 5, 2008.
