New Orleans couple takes first place at US Salon tango championship

New York City, NY - July 25, 2009 - Alberto Paz and Valorie Hart from
New Orleans are the 2009 US Salon tango champions after winning first
place at the 3rd US Tango Championship held July 23 and 24, 2009 at
the Stepping Out Studios in New York City.

The Judging Panel, consisting of renowned Argentine tango
professionals Junior Cervila, Guillermina Quiroga and Jorge Torres
judged four different areas: musicality, circulation, walking style
and the consistency of the embrace.

The finals consisted of two rounds with four couples each dancing
three tangos of diverse styles and rhythm. Paz and Hart impressed the
judges with their mastery of the floor circulation, their elegant
walking style and their connection to each other and the particular
music being danced.

As a result of their first place placement in the 3rd US Tango
Championship, the New Orleans couple received an invitation to
represent the US at the 7th Dance World Cup that will take place in
Buenos Aires from August 23 - 31. The event that establishes Buenos
Aires as a mecca for tango dancers from all over the world will select
the best dancers among 400 couples representing 25 countries in the
categories “Salon Tango”, which stresses the social aspect of the
tango dance as a typical porteño practice, and “Stage Tango”, which
aims to enrich the dance from a choreographic point of view related to
the performance as a show.

Valorie Hart and Alberto Paz have taught and promoted the Argentine
tango in the US since 1996 and live in New Orleans since June 2000
where they hold regular weekly classes, monthly social dances, and
yearly tango festivals.

They are the authors of the best seller book Gotta Tango by Human
Kinetics, and their contribution to the preservation, fostering and
