Winter is finally here it is making the possibility of swimming this Sunday a guessing game.

We'll start with water quality.  On Monday the County posted a heath and rain advisory for Avila Beach, as well as several other Central Coast beaches. The beaches are not closed but these warnings about the presence of high bacteria are still in effect.
The Surfrider Blue Water Task Force will collect samples at Avila Beach and the creek mouth Thursday morning. The results of these samples will be posted mid-Friday at https://www.surfrider.org/blue-water-task-force/chapter/34

Now for the weather. On Tuesday John Lindsey posted his weather predictions for the holiday and up to Monday.

Avila Beach faces south and he had this prediction about the wind and swell at Avila Beach:

    Fresh gale-force to strong gale-force (39 to 54 mph)

southerly winds will generate 10- to 12-foot southerly

    seas on Saturday into Sunday.

Note- 'southerly' means from the south, so these winds and swell will be traveling onto Avila Beach.

And this about the weather:

An strong 986 mb Gulf of Alaska storm and associated

cold front is forecast to bring fresh gale-force to

strong gale-force (39 to 54 mph) southerly winds, heavy

rain, and high southerly seas on Saturday into Sunday.

Rain showers are expected to continue next Monday and

    Tuesday.

We have the possibility of dirty water, rain, high winds and a large waves at Avila Beach on Sunday.
Sunday is 3+ days out and Sunday's predicted conditions could change significantly in that much time.

I will decide sometime Saturday if I'll go to the beach to swim this Sunday.
