Well, now what? The reality is that we have a lot of work to do in
Central Florida with or without rail. Rail in Orlando is an
inevitability, so let's continue to plan for future rail no matter how
far in the future it is, it's eventually got to happen. The local
governments came together on the SunRail project in an unprecedented
way. We don't have to go all the way back to square one. Let's
continue building on the progress we've already made. I think some of
the next logical steps ought to be to consider phasing rail in in
smaller increments. Another huge step that needs to be taken is to go
ahead and start putting in express bus lines along planned future rail
routes. Connecting future rail stops and planning the future rights
of way for the rail should be happening now, not later when the land
values are even higher and when redevelopment will be even more costly
and harder to pull together. Creating a logical express bus system
would allow us to center walkable development on transit nodes and
allow for much more efficiency in the existing system without very
much of an expense at all. Let's get to it! I'm going to be talking
to some of our local leaders about this very thing and will keep you
up to date on our progress.
