I use those Velcro disc for my orbital sander. I purchase boxes of 100 each. I like to run through the grits 100 to 220 to 400 to 800. However, the last box I ordered for 800 came at P 800. It doesn’t feel a lot finer than my 400 grit. Is P 800 courser than a disc with grit without that P?
Thanks for any advice.

800 grit" is a standard grit designation, while "P 800" indicates that the sandpaper is graded using the FEPA (Federation of European Producers of Abrasives) standard.

Hey Dave,

I have always wondered that myself.

Mr Google Ai says, "P 800 grit sandpaper" is essentially the same as "800 grit sandpaper" except that the "P" indicates that the sandpaper is graded according to the European FEPA standard, meaning it likely has a slightly more consistent grain size and may be considered slightly finer compared to a standard 800 grit sandpaper without the "P” designation

I have used 400 and P400 grit papers.  Found the P's to be coarser.  Can't give any measurable result like "comparable to our 320."

Paul,

Actually the charts I pulled up indicate that P800 is closer to a 400 or 500 grit, and my fingers are confirming that. How are your tables doing?
