Happy New Year, Local Makers!
With a mid-week start to the year, the second Wednesday has snuck up
on us. Meetups are continuing in 2025 and I'll see what I can do to
revive in-person attendance (short of free parking which is beyond my
control).
One bit of good news is that the physical building which has been for
sale for months has sold to a non-profit which is expected to maintain
present usage for both the Idea Foundry and the Gravity Experience
Park next door. This is probably the best possible outcome and is
much better than some other developer coming in to buy both properties
to extract the value from the street address.
Construction along State St. is still ongoing so it's a bit tricky to
get to the front door these days, but that entrance is still open.
Something I'd like to do for 2025 is start a multipart project build
and show off progress from month to month. For purely personal
nostalgic reasons, I'm kicking this off with a build of the Digi-Comp
I mechanical "computer"
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1477209
When I was a volunteer at COSI in the 80s, we had an original 1963
Digi-Comp I that I cleaned and repaired. I never found one to
purchase for myself and it's a great use of rapid manufacturing tech.
It has a number of printed parts and some specific requirements for
the wire bits ("music wire" of two specific sizes with very precise
bends)
In the meantime, the parking situation is the same - no off-street
parking is available and no on-street parking immediately in front of
the building due to construction and reconfiguration of all of State
St. Parking is still available on other streets and in the nearby
Gravity garage.
Times are the same as every month, start at 7P and go to 9P or so.
For the virtual part of the meetup, we'll once again be in
gather.town. Same link and credentials as before:

Please don't feel obligated to come down if you aren't comfortable
around crowds, but at least we have the in-person option.
Cheers,
