I have just dabbled in Calvin's works, but found much of it very
powerful and inspiring. I'm looking forward to this more disciplined
reading of the Institues (
http://www2.ptsem.edu/ConEd/Calvin/) to get
a more complete picture of his thinking. Three things I especially
want to look for are:
1) How literally does Calvin accept the inerrancy of the Bible,
2) To what extent does he think we are obliged to do things, like good
works, correcting the misled, etc. I know that grace is the main
thing, if not the whole thing, but then why does he seem so tense?
3) Connected to 2), how much of the future does Calvin feel is pre-
ordained, and to what extent, if any can humans affect it?
