My name is Hugh Smith and I am the Director of the Computer Engineering Program at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
I would like to invite you and your students to attend our 2nd Annual Computer and Electrical Showcase, an event that is focused on grade school and high school students 7 – 18 years old. This year’s showcase is scheduled for Saturday April 14, 2012 from 10am – 3pm in Cal Poly’s Mott Gym and features fun interactive projects and displays put together by Cal Poly students.
This showcase event is part of Cal Poly’s campus wide Open House. (For full details visit http://cpe.calpoly.edu/showcase/)
Not only are the showcase activities fun, interactive and educational, they are a great opportunity to expose young students to the computer engineering, electrical engineering and computer science fields. I believe the different displays at the event foster a natural curiosity and excitement in young students that encourages their interest in learning about math and science. As a parent, I know how much I enjoy taking my daughter to this event.
Examples of what visitors will find include sewable light-up electronics, a soldering station to learn how to solder real electronic components, an animated stuffed animal petting zoo, Build-a-Bot station where young visitors build and take home a robot, and computer game station where students can play computer games. We will also have two large-scale robotic competitions in progress at the same time.
We are asking for your help in getting the word out to your students about this event. As I mentioned earlier it is scheduled for Saturday April 14, 2101 on the Cal Poly campus in Mott Gym. The event runs from 10am to 3pm and parking on campus that day is free.
Thank you again for your help. If you have any questions feel free to contact the Computer Engineering Program Office at (805)756-1229 or by e-mail at c...@calpoly.edu.
Hope to see your students at Open House this year!
Hugh
