Reading: Hebrews 2: Neglecting Salvation & The Founder of Salvation
Verses for Today: (Hebrews 2:3) How shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard.
Daily.Devo
“Therefore, we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard.” The message declared by angels was reliable. Every transgression or disobedience received a just punishment. How shall we escape if we neglect our great salvation?
The Lord Jesus first declared this salvation. It was confirmed to us by those who heard Him. God also bore witness with signs, wonders, miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit given according to His will.
The Founder of Our Salvation.
God did not commit our salvation to angels. It is stated in the Scripture:
“What is man that You are mindful of him, or the Son of Man, that you care for Him? You made him a little lower than the angels. You crowned Him with glory and honor, putting everything in subjection under His feet” (Psalm 8:4-6).
Jesus said, just before He ascended, “All authority has been given to Me” (Matthew 28:18). Nothing is left outside His control, even though we do not now see everything under Him. We do see Him for a little while lower than the angels, crowned with glory because He suffered death, so by the grace of God He might taste death for all of us.
It was right that He, by whom all things exist, in bringing many people to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. He calls them brothers and is not ashamed to do it! “I will tell of your name to my brothers. I will sing of Your praise” (Psalm 22:22). And again, “See, here I am, and the children God has given me” (Isaiah 8:18)
His brothers and children have flesh and blood. He was also a flesh and blood person. He accepted this so that He could, through death, destroy him who has the power over death, that is, the devil. He delivers (saves) all who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.
He did not die for angels; He died for the descendants of Abraham. “He had to be made like his brothers in every respect, to become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.”
He suffered when He was tempted. Therefore, He can help those who are tempted. He suffered temptation but did not sin. The high priests before him had to offer sacrifices for their own sins as well as the sins of the people. Jesus, having no sin Himself, offered sacrifice for the entire world.
These first two chapters show Jesus to be superior to angels, though he became, for a little while, a little lower than angels. He became, and remains, human. As a human, He suffered all things we suffer, which makes Him a merciful, faithful High Priest to offer Himself to God for us.
Could there be a greater salvation than Jesus brings to us?
Can there be a Greater Salvation than we have with such a Wonderful Savior as He is?
Pray for Your Self: Father, I bow down before You and I worship Your Son. May I be worthy of your mercy and grace, for I know I am a sinner. This is my prayer, in His precious name, AMEN!
My Prayer for You (and for me) Father, I offer this prayer for all who read these words. I pray that each of us will meditate on the fact that Jesus is the greatest Savior who brings the greatest Salvation, far greater than we could imagine. This is my prayer, in the name of Jesus, AMEN!
