After finishing One Hundred Years of Solitute, I was very
impressed. I was impressed by the fact that the author, Gabriel
Garcia Marquez was able to keep the story so tangled but put it all
together so neatly in the end. He is a very talented writer because
the book was so unpredictable. All th themes in this book all
contribute to the overall theme of solitude. I couldn't help but feel
bad for the last Aureliano, who lost his son and lover in the same
day. It seemed ironic that the baby Aureliano was born with a pig's
tail because thats what Ursala was afraid of all her life.
The other interesting thing i noticed was the Aureliano Jose loved
Amaranta, and then three generations later, Aureliano loved Amaranta
Ursala. Both of these women were the aunts of the men. The only
reason i found that fact to be interesting is because the Buendias are
constantly repeating their past. The way they are fascinated by
Melquiades' books, the way they make little golden fishes, and the way
the experience solitude. Each of these characteristics are repeated.
By the end of the book, most of my questions had been answered, but
the only on that stilled bugged me was about the banana company
massacre. How is it that 3000 people die, but only one person
remembers it. Even though i never found the answer to this question,
i prefer it that way, because the way Gabriel Marquez leaves some
questions unanswered and the way he borders reality with his writing,
makes it more enjoyable to read because it leaves the holes to your
imagination.
