Jose Arcadio Buendia is the partiarch of the entire Buendia family. He
is known to be a deep thinking man who engages himself in mysterious
things. He also seems to be a very self-absorbed man. He doesn't take
time away from his involvements very often. He would rather focus on
himself and what he's doing than anything else. He doesn't even pay
attention to peoples feelings very often either. He made his wife cry
and he seems to not even care. "Jose Arcadio Buendia made no attempt
to consoler her, completely absorbed in his tactical experiments with
the abnegation of a scientist."

Jose Arcardio Buendia married Ursula Iguaran, making her the matriarch
of the family. Ursula appears to be a loving, realistic person.
Throughout the whole novel, Ursula remains calm and accepting of
everything that has gone on involving her family. This is very
admirable because a good amount of absurd things happen in the Buendia
family. Two cousins have children with the same woman, a son becomes a
tyrant, and many other things. Ursula seems to be a good mother/woman.
She definately puts others before herself and that is remarkable of a
woman that has been through so much.
