I'm not very sure of what to think about this book. It started
out pretty slow, but it's beginning to gain some momentum. Out of all
the characters, I like Ursula the best; she's very intelligent,
stable, sensible, dedicated to her family, and strong. She can take on
a challenge! Her husband, however, has issues. Jose Arcadio Buendia
can come up with some good ideas, can be an outstanding leader, and
loves exploring the unknown. The issue, though, is it seems sometimes
he explores too much too deeply. I get the impression that performing
experiments too much is beginning to steal the poor man of his
rational! He's becoming a tad crazy, in my opinion.
I have to say that the second generation of the family is much
more interesting! Aureliano is weird. All he does is make silver in
the lab all day. Furthermore, he's gone bananas over a child and wants
to marry her! A kid! I have no real opinion of Jose, though. All I can
say concerning him is that I don't think he should have ran off the
way he did. The fact that he abandoned his family and child put a bad
taste in my mouth concerning him. Amaranta's the Wicked Witch of the
West! She should get some serious help, because wanting to kill your
sister is not, in any way, normal. The only one who's fairly normal in
this generation thus far is Rebeca. . . .I wonder if it's any
coincidence that Rebeca wasn't born a Buendia?
