The likely reason is un acknowledged packets. TCP/IP requires that every packet be acknowleged, but it doesn't require it to happen immediately. At very high transmission rates such as FIOS provides, any delay in ackowledging a packet or delay in re-transmitting a packet may cause the router memory to fill up with subsequent packets, creating the proverbial Gordian knot. You cannot get rid of packets in memory because they haven't been acknowledged, but you cannot get any more acknowledgements, because there is no memory left in the router to receive them! I suspect this is a situation the router doesn't handle gracefully.
If it does, then you have a stressed line problem that only occurs when the line is close to saturated, which is a common problem with lines that are marginal, and would probably require a trouble ticket.
You may also have a issue with fios itself, because you are streaming video you can see it where as if your just going to websites you will not see a network hiccup. I stream netflix all the time with no issues. I highly doubt it is a issue of the router running out of memory, because your router does not store what you are downloading, it is just routing on the packets of info onto the correct mac address that requested the info from the website., it does not buffer them.
I still think it is the router running out of memory. Contrary to what others have said, the router does have to store packets. It is just like any other node on a TCP/IP network. It has to hold onto the packet until the next node up the line has ack'ed sucessful receipt. TCP/IP does require that every sent packet be acknowledge, but to deal effectively with high speed transmission, and long propogation time, it can send the next packet, in fact it can keep on sending packets until the packet is ack'd. The packets do have to be ack'd in order, but It can take a long time. The obvious problem is at very high transmission rates, delays in ack of even due to just propagation delay can chew up a lot of memory in the router. The faster you make the connection, the faster the router will run out of memory, so making the connection faster will make matters worse.
While it is configured that way, some other things may not work, but if the netflix streaming video works without the router, there is your answer. The PC has far more memory available for packets than the router. so is far more tolerant of long delayed acks.
I'm having same issue, waited my 30 minutes with Netflix support and that said "no idea" and that they are working on buffering issue. Has anyone got past this yet? Very frustrating and wonder what is up w/router to just drop like that?
how did you access the ONT outside? all locked up? but after doing so you ran cat 5 cable for that to the inside to a wireless router and use that for internet and leave the actiontec in place for the TV side? did you disable anything in actiontec?
In terms of getting this done with Verizon Tech Support, we need more detail, they are stingy with helping anymore. what number did you call and what was the wording you used? i'm guessing they will say not suppoted so get lost.
Let me know if you have stutter again.. Because the laggy or frame drop doesnt always happen, only in sometime it happens.. I have tried wifi, non wifi, and please dont tell me its a connection issue, I have 1gbps wifi speed and around 200-400 mbps upload/download.. Also 5g connection network in my area..
Reset app, check fir firmware upgrade, factory reset TV, unplugged from mains and just about anything else I can think of including talking to Netflix who say the issue is not with them. Netflix is completely stable on my laptop, tablet and phone.
Welcome to the community. I'm not sure if you've seen this previous topic with similar issues, it might have some other tests/checks you can try. There are also some troubleshooting guides for your TV here.
I have exactly the same issue on my bravia 50w829b. It used to happen in the past from time to time but last month it's like that all the time. Yes - logout completely from netflix and login again typing credentials manually worked out for me also, but this is ridiculous. I am after extensive logs/test data exchange between sony & netflix regarding this issue but Netflix checked it out and told me they can't do anything here. Hopefully they'll find the solution soon because this is extremely annoying and looks like nobody cares to fix it (that's why I sent a lot of technical info including images & technical data to Sony to help them reproduce the defect). Please send this issue to sony also, so they can know this is not one person's problem.
Hi everyone - I just moved into a new house that came with a lovely Sony tv and I'm having this problem. Netflix will work for a bit, and then decide that it doesn't want to anymore and as soon as I press play on something it kicks me to a black screen that says HDMI 1/MHL at the top, with a little box that's got an arrow coming in from the left. Anyone got any answers yet? I don't know what model the TV is... if anyone knows where I'll find that info, lemme know. It's wall mounted so I can't see behind the tv itself haha... THANKS = )
I'm getting the run around by Sony Australia. First suggested to do a factory reset of the TV which I did. This did not solve the issue. They also suggested a log off from all devices via the Netflix website. Did make a difference the first few goes, but issue is back after just a few viewing sessions.
They then suggested changes to the Network DNS which does not make sense IMHO. Also a dead end. They are now suggesting that there is something wrong with the motherboard and I should get it replaced, of course for a fee... IMHO this is total nonsense as there is nothing wrong with the other apps and just an attempt to have me give up on pursuing this any further. The only way that this could solve problems if it was a compatibility issues between the revision of the motherboard I'm using and Netflix. If that is the case I shouldn't be paying for the fix...
One of the support staff did make mention of a Netflix software roll-out recently which was causing playback issues, but apparently this was rolled back. This makes a lot more sense and IMHO, there is a bug in the Netflix app which causes the playback issues.
So to cut a long story short, Sony support has no idea what the issue is and although I have provided them with all the info I don't have any hope this will be resolved by them. The only hope we have is that Netflix fixes the bug soon in a future release of the software.
Last week, Netflix dropped a three-part documentary which slid into the top ten faster than you could slide into the DMs. Ashley Madison, a dating site dedicated to enabling married folk to meet and have an affair, gained notoriety in 2015, when it became subject to a data breach. Millions of users, each of whom had been promised total anonymity, had their personal, financial, and sexual details leaked to the general public, causing mass chaos (and divorce) across the globe.
Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal recounts the tale, with animation and motion design by London-based studio, Blind Pig. Working closely with Minnow Films, the team worked on the 2D title intro animation and graphical elements throughout. These include composited dating carousels, headlines, recreated social media interactions, website interactions, on screen computer interactions and titles.

Netflix reported 84.11 million paid streaming subscribers across the United States and Canada in the second quarter of 2024. After a decline in the U.S. and Canadian subscriber base during the first nine months of 2022, this marked a growth of nearly nine million compared with the same quarter of the previous year.
The EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) region is Netflix's top-performing market in terms of subscribers, surpassing North America in the third quarter of 2022 for the first time. The company reported losing an estimated one million users worldwide in the second quarter of 2022, with the number of Netflix users standing at approximately 221 million that quarter. But why have audiences canceled their subscriptions? One reason for the unprecedented drop in account holders is Netflix's monthly fee, which has been increasing rapidly over the past few years. On top of that, viewers have also voiced criticism over Netflix's cancellation of popular shows and its lack of big movie franchises.
Netflix's vast content library offers anything from reality TV to Hollywood blockbusters, with shows and movies delivered in many different languages. As of early 2023, European countries such as Slovakia, Bulgaria, and Iceland boasted the largest content catalogs on Netflix. In the U.S., where audiences could choose from approximately 6,400 titles, "NCIS" and "Suits" ranked among the most popular streaming series on Netflix in 2023. As of that year, fan favorites "Stranger Things" and "One Piece" were the most expensive Netflix original series, with production costs of 30 and 18 million U.S. dollars per episode, respectively.

Rumors are getting stronger that Netflix is "cracking down" on password sharing, so if you're currently password sharing and don't own the account, you might soon need to go through Netflix's new user experience; where you register your account, and then some more stuff happens, too. It has been covered extensively elsewhere how attractive it is for Netflix to address password sharing, so here instead I will be covering the new user experience.
