I've inserted an image onto a Word 2007 document, and created a pdf
from that. No matter what type of image (tif, gif, jpg, png), when
converted the image is fuzzy.

I downloaded bluebeam pdf revu and opened the pdf and was able to
insert another copy of the image over the original one. That left me
with a sharp image.

Any hints on getting a sharp image with your software??

There are a couple things you can try. With Office 2007, you can
install the free Microsoft Export as PDF add-in:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=F1FC413C-6D89-4F15-991B-63B07BA5F2E5&displaylang=en

After you install that, go to CenoPDF > Options dialog. You will see
the checkbox "Use Microsoft Export as PDF add-in if it is installed in
Office 2007" is enabled. This option allows you to choose between two
different PDF engines. Depending on which one you choose, you can go
to "Compression" tab to set the compression level or go to "Microsoft
Export as PDF" tab to set the Threshold resolution for your images.

See this online help page for more information:

Usually "Microsoft Export as PDF" gives you better result. If none of
the settings work for you, please email your file to our support and
we will have a look for you.

Had already found the article about the "use MS Export as pdf" and installed the add-in and checked the options.

Here's a made up doc, with the exported pdf.

I tried your file and found the best setting is this:
1. Uncheck the "Use Microsoft Export As PDF addin if it is installed
in Office 2007"
2. Go to the Compression tab to set all levels to Maximum.

The following file is the result I got. If you open it and zoom to
200%, you should see it is pretty sharp:
