Hello Friends. hope you are all well this fine day in January. I am a bit under the weather but still working!!! No vacation for me :-)
I am emailing you today with an odd request. As most of you know, that recently I have gotten myself involved with the Criminal Justice reform and have started a Movement which will encourage and motivate people to Vote - especially families & friends of the incarcerated. In doing so we are the change and not just talking about it.
I have met some really amazing people through this process and have decided to support those who believe that Change is within us and within the community. re-building America from scratch!!!
A friend of mine and a truley great guy Craig Schley is running for Congress in the the 15th district of Harlem in NY. He is one of the few people ho has been very vocal about the issues with the criminal justice issues. He also Hosted a show on WBAI network.. I know that he is in NY and thus of no real consequence to you in PA or any place else. However, I totally believe that This election has to be united on issues which have been ignored on a national level. If a candidate from NY works towards that change..that one person can become the voice of justice not only in NY but eventually the cause can catch on in other cities.
I more than anyone dislike the use of Campaign funding for elections and lobbying but some things are inevitable. We need money to WIN:-( boohoo - but instead of looking for big businesses to fund their agendas..It would be better if the people come together with resources available to them to ensure success. just like you have with the cafe.
Below is the link to Craig's website and any contribution would help the smallest amount. Money is only the tool - the rest is faith and hard work. Even through you are not directly involved. you may know someone who knows someone who can be involved and help. please pass on this email and get everyone to contribute at least $25 for a cause to change.
Craig is the only one who went to visit David and has actually motivated a movement inside Rikers as well. I am working with many different advocates as well as politicians in NY who are serious, dedicated and motivated to bring about real change in the system and fight for the rights of the incarcerated. If we work to gether as a nation as one voice we can send a strong message to Washington that this is an important issue for the upcoming elections...Not Gay marriage, Not abortion and not universal health care....These are personal issues. CRIME, PRISON COMPLEX & the economy are related to the massive incarceration of citizens in America and must be tackled from the Policy level.
Please lets work as one community - Not segregated!!!
Finally - research into candidates who can advocate for these issues in different cities & get your friends and families involved. Lets make this the most powerful election ever..TIME IS RUNNING OUT!!!!
Occupy D.O.C needs Volunteers in different cities to organize events which will educate, motivate and mobilize voters and register families * friends of the incarcerated to unite.
I am starting a letter writing campaign this week and need your help to get the letters into the hands of every politician out there who is running for office. from local all the way National & presidential !!!
Thank you for your time - Connect to Occupy D.O.C on facebook & twitter @ occupyDocny
