Good day all, For those that do not know me, My name is Marisa McClinton.
I am a lifelong resident of Ulster county, community activist, social justice advocate, and overall servant. I am the founder of Unity Delivered which is a black owned and operated mobile pantry that delivers food, clothing, and whatever else to those in need despite income level or family size. I have marched alongside many community members against police brutality, racism, and violence and I have seen how the Hudson Valley has failed to respond and shift away from the old practice of empty hatred and anger.
A little background: I am a current resident of Southern Ulster county and I have been experiencing racial harassment and bullying by white members of my community. I have tried to do things the legal way only to be told by the police that threats are not a crime until they show up at my house. When they did show up at my house, I was told by the police that it's not a crime until they come inside. When they did come inside, the state police dismissed my claim and didn't bother to send a car out to take a report. So I had to chase these supremacists off my lawn, LITERALLY, with a bat only to get my house egged on and phone calls threatening to come to my house with a "n*gger beater". The police again did nothing. Since I have done all I can do, I decided to fight fire with fire and blast the racist ideation that has cemented itself in Southern Ulster since its inception. There are more of us against this hate than there are for it and I wish to show this area that.
I am writing to you to invite you to a STOP HATE community event that will be held on SATURDAY APRIL 29th, 2023 from 12pm to 4pm. This event will be FREE for all who attend and will include speakers, musical performances, free food, free clothing, and free information. I want this event to be a safe space where we can talk about our issues, talk about solutions, heal our pain, and reunite a community in PEACE.
I am reaching out to you in hopes that you will SHARE this event, SUPPORT this event, ATTEND this event, and ASSIST in my vision to bring awareness and unity.
