If you entered the wrong account or routing number, call us at 800-829-1040 to stop the deposit. If it's already deposited to another account, you must contact your bank to recover your funds.

If you receive this status, we need more information from you before we can finish processing your return and refund. You will receive a Request for Information letter (Form DTF-948 or DTF-948-O) with details about the information we need and how to respond to the letter.

You can view the letter we mailed in your Individual Online Services account, using our Respond to Department Notice application. You don't need to wait for the mailed letter to respond. See Respond to a letter requesting additional information to learn more.

If the line on your return where you request a refund amount is blank or you entered zero, you have not requested a refund and cannot use our Check Your Refund Status tool. You cannot use Check Your Refund Status to view the status of a payment.

If you enter information that doesn't match our system, you'll receive an error message. After four attempts, you won't be able to access your status for 24 hours. To resolve your issue, review the Social Security number and refund amount you entered to confirm they're correct. Our representatives cannot provide your requested refund amount, even after verifying your identity.

And every year we look for better ways to give you the information you need without requiring you to stay on hold to ask a representative. We developed this resource to help answer some of your most common questions.

If you used a tax preparer to file your return, contact them for a copy. They are required by law to provide you with the return they filed on your behalf. See Consumer Bill of Rights Regarding Tax Preparers for more information.

If you have trouble obtaining a copy, file Form DTF-505, Authorization for Release of Photocopies of Tax Returns and/or Tax Information, to request a copy from us. Please allow 30 days for us to process your request.

Unfortunately, no. Our phone representatives cannot provide you with the refund amount you requested on your return, even after verifying your identity. It's the procedure we follow to ensure your information remains safe and confidential.

If we requested documentation or missing information, we cannot continue processing your return until we receive it. See Respond to a letter requesting additional information to learn how to respond online. It's the fastest way.

If you've checked your refund status using our automated phone line or Check Your Refund Status tool, and neither of them state your refund issue date, our Call Center representatives don't have that information.

Our phone representatives use the exact same information we provide to you in our automated refund tools. Our representatives do not have additional information beyond what you can learn by calling our automated phone line (518-457-5149) or using the Check Your Refund Status tool.

There are many reasons why we might have adjusted your refund, such as math errors or incorrectly claimed credits. See Additional information about New York State income tax refunds for more reasons why your refund may be different from what you expected.

All returns go through our award-winning, automated review process. Depending on the results, your return may be selected for additional review, or it may quickly finish processing. A simple return will process faster than a complex return.

The best way to receive your refund faster is to e-file and ensure you qualify for any credits you claim. If you claim a credit you aren't eligible for, your return could take months longer to process. To learn more about the requirements for credits you may be eligible for, see Income tax credits and Recordkeeping for individuals.

Travel plans sometimes change and you may want a refund for a purchased airline ticket or other related services such as baggage or seat fees. This page contains useful information to determine whether you are entitled to a refund for air fare or services related to a scheduled flight.

Note: While airlines are not required to issue a refund for non-refundable tickets, they are free to do so or they may issue a credit or travel voucher for future use on the airline. Airlines must also comply with the promises they make, and in some instances, they may be willing to offer passengers accommodations or other benefits that they are not required to provide. Contact the airline directly to inquire about additional accommodations or benefits.

Although airlines must hold a reservation for 24 hours or provide a refund to consumers at their request within 24 hours of making a reservation, airlines are not required to make changes to a ticket free of charge (for example - change your ticket to a different date or correct a misspelled name on the reservation).

In some cases, instead of paying for a change fee and a potential difference between the original ticket price and the current ticket price, it may be cheaper to request a refund for the ticket and rebook. However, please keep in mind that ticket prices can change quickly.

No, the 24-hour refund/reservation requirement for airlines does not apply to tickets booked through online travel agencies, travel agents, or other third-party agents. However, these agents are free to apply the same or similar procedures to provide equivalent or similar customer service.

If you filed electronically before February 5, you can expect your refund by March 5. Processing times will vary based on individual factors. See What Can Slow Down Your Refund? for more information.

If your tax return had one or more errors, we may need to adjust your return leading to a different refund amount than you claimed on your return. We will send you a letter explaining the adjustments we made and how they affected your refund. If you have questions about the change, please call Customer Services.

The U.S. Postal Service will forward paper check tax refunds when a forwarding mailing address has been submitted. However, if you did not submit a forwarding address with USPS, a paper check must be reissued with your correct address. You must call our Tax Information Call Center at 303-238-7378 to start the process.

Please note that it usually takes about 7-10 business days for the U.S. Postal Service to deliver the refund checks, but occasionally it can take up to 30 days. If it has been more than 30 days and you have not received your refund check, you can start the refund check reissue process. Please read below for more information.

In the best interest of all our taxpayers, the Colorado Department of Revenue implements measures to detect and prevent identity theft-related refund fraud. Fraud detection, along with verification that claims made on an individual income tax return are valid and the documentation is submitted with the returns, are part of the process of ensuring the return is correct and complete and that taxpayers receive the refund amount to which they are entitled. Please be aware that these measures, meant to ensure state tax dollars are going to the right person, could delay individual income tax refunds up to 60 days beyond the time frames of prior years.

Read filing instructions carefully and ensure a return is complete and correct to the extent possible. This includes filling out all forms completely, double-checking calculations, attaching all relevant documentation and ensuring sensitive information such as Social Security numbers and bank routing and account number is thorough and accurate.

The PATH Act made the following changes, which became effective for the 2017 filing season, to help prevent revenue loss due to identity theft and refund fraud related to fabricated wages and withholdings:

Low Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITCs) are independent from the IRS and TAS. LITCs represent individuals whose income is below a certain level and who need to resolve tax problems with the IRS. LITCs can represent taxpayers in audits, appeals, and tax collection disputes before the IRS and in court. In addition, LITCs can provide information about taxpayer rights and responsibilities in different languages for individuals who speak English as a second language. Services are offered for free or a small fee. For more information or to find an LITC near you, see the LITC page on the TAS website or Publication 4134, Low Income Taxpayer Clinic List.

Minnesota refunds contributions made by individuals eligible to vote in Minnesota, to a recognized political party or to a qualified candidate for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state auditor, state senator, or state representative, up to a maximum of $50 per calendar year for an individual or $100 per calendar year for a married couple filing jointly. Beginning with contributions made in 2024, the maximum refund amounts increase to $75 per calendar year for an individual or $150 per calendar year for a married couple filing jointly.

To receive a refund, the contributor must obtain a political contribution refund receipt from the qualified candidate or party unit and submit it to the Department of Revenue along with a political contribution refund application form. The refund application form is available by using the quick links in the box at the right.

A candidate is qualified to issue a political contribution refund receipt if the candidate has signed and filed an agreement to limit spending during the election cycle, prior to the contribution being received. Judicial candidates and candidates for local and federal offices are not eligible to participate in the political contribution refund program.
