Hi Jing,
I have realized that this is just a very inconvenient weekend for me to go. Because I don't have any time on weekdays (I have two part-time jobs during the week), I need to get things done this weekend. I have the opportunity to meet with some professors emeriti this weekend and I don't want to turn them down especially because they don't make their time available to students usually. I've been invited for dinner at Walter LaFeber's house, for example, and I really don't want to turn that down. The last thing is that I am scheduled to work on Friday afternoons and evenings, and if I take time off this Friday, I have to make up the hours beforehand. I have not been able to make up all the hours beforehand because I am already busy from 8-5 every weekday.
I feel very bad letting down the group and backing out on such late notice. I will pay the Michigan chapter back for my registration fee so they don't have to incur any costs. I would even be happy to help pay for my portion of the car rental fee if you think that is necessary. I just really cannot go anymore this weekend. I also had some reservations about the trip because it seems that all the details are only just beginning to come together and I don't think the planning process has been very transparent. If I had had more advance notice about what to expect, I could have planned better. I am very sorry.
I would be happy to do anything that I can to help the team here in Ithaca this weekend. For example, I can begin putting together activities and a display board for Sage Asia Night, or anything else that you need completed.
