We discussed organising a monthly concert series to showcase interesting electronic stuff, straying with people based in Cambridge but hopefully expanding. My model is The Ambient Ping
http://www.theambientping.com/
a series that's been going on in Toronto since 1999. They grew from something very tiny to an outfit where you had to book many months in advance if you wanted to perform! I played three shows and enjoyed them all.
Anyway, more info about this from me in the near future. It doesn't have to be ambient---I think all sorts of original electronic-influenced music would be a good idea. I plan to check out the Alma as a venue first of all, but am keen on getting suggestions.
Cheers!

Thanks for the link.

Lets see what the Alma has to start with. The Haymakers in Chesterton
is supposedly re-opening and so might be receptive to new ideas too.
They have/had a name as a live music venue:

2nd Tuesday of every month!

Great, thanks!

I went there last night. Turns out that Tuesdays are FOOTBALL night, or darts. Not the best of timing it seems. It would appear that Wednesdays host Cambridge Songwriters and that is not our sort of thing at all. The atmosphere wasn't really right to chat to the staff about scheduling (FOOTBALL after all) so it is worth returning to talk to them. Physically the place looks like it would be pretty good and the staff were friendly to me as someone who appeared out of nowhere but were keen to chat to regulars about pizza and golf tournaments, too. When I arrived they were playing a cheesy low-key dancish compilation (Way Out West etc.) so they're not all guitar all the time.

Good to know. I have no info about this.
That's the extent of my research for now!
And, Piotr, thanks for being interested in performing! A range is key, I think.
Cheers, all!
I havent seen much venues yet in the city, as I moved around 2 months
ago, but those seems to have kind of similar parties in the past. The
Emperor in The Hills Road seems to be very open as well, however they
seem to aim for different kind of music. Maybe they just don't know
what they missed ;)

Oh yeah, for whatever reason I had not thought of CB2 at all! They are very close to me and I like the place; will check them out.

Nobody knows what they're missing... ;)

Did you get a chance to check it out?
Unfortunately it looks like I will be away for the next meeting so it
would be good to get a good handle on the venue question. If we're
aiming for November we need to be thinking about rolling out publicity
soon.

No, I haven't. I shall try to this week.

That's on the 13th, nit tonight, right? If so then likewise I shall be away.

Yes; although thankfully his slipping wouldn't be a huge disaster...

No worries!

Great - looking forward to your report.

Yes, next Tuesday 13th. I'll be in Menorca catching the last few rays
before the winter cold sets in :(

True, true, ... but worth having a notional target in mind. If it
slips to December or even January its not a problem. I'd rather we
slip a bit and get a good audience, than rush it and no-one to listen!
("if two analogue synth players are on stage, but no-one is there to
listen, are they still in tune?")

I look forward to finding out. :) The Geldart is another option.

Sounds more fun than my dealing with Home Office people in Birmingham!

Entirely agreed.

Beat frequency depends on the size of the audience?
(Actually, most--maybe all?--of my instruments will be digital...all my analogue, aside from a Monotron, is in Canada.)

I don't think that there's a goal of any single type of synthesis. We wouldn't exactly refuse Brian Eno a spot if he brought just a DX7, would we?
