Hi there I can't find that software for Fusion 12.1 that you mention in your post. It would also seem I can't find my license key on the site either (WTF) I have a copy of the key which vmware are telling me is invalid total flaming disaster at the moment.

And by popular demand from our customers with larger footprints, new commercial licenses for Fusion Player are now available for purchase from our Channel Partners with either 1 or 3 years of Support and Subscription, even if the order quantity is only 1. Customers at store.vmware.com can now optionally add SnS in increments of 1 unit as well.

SnS provides major-version upgrades and active support engagement for the duration of the term purchased, at a fraction of the cost of a new license or per-incident support agreement. In alignment with other VMware perpetually licensed products, SnS is required for orders placed through our channel partners, but remains optional for customers purchasing from store.vmware.com.

Was helping a friend with his new (Intel) MBP and grabbed him a copy of Fusion Player Personal which is free for non-commercial use. I reviewed system requirements/limitations and didn't see any mention of this but found one or two VMware forum posts where 12.x is bugged?

Since upgrading to Big Sur and VMWare Fusion Pro 12.x, it seems my DEP VMs are not fully working. The setup wizard goes through and recognizes the VM is part of our DEP and completes the setup wizard as expected. But none of the profiles come down (for example changing from list of users to name / password fields). The local admin is created as expected and I can sign in, but when I check sharing, remote login and remote management are unchecked and only a couple profiles have come down.

Starting a new thread for discussion on building macOS 12.x virtual machines with packer and VMware fusion 12.0. macOS 12.0.1 Monterey will be released shortly. My packer template for building these complicated VMs has been updated on github.

Just a note to say that I was seeing some issues with starting the box on VMWare on a Mac Mini after building on a MacBook Pro. I think there may be a bug (or dependency?) in the packer vmware plugin as the cores per socket is being set to a value causes issues (seems to be same as number of cpus / cores being configured). I also had to update the model ID and board ID. So if people see boot failures and VMWare refusing to start because of misconfigured CPUs and then check CPU, Socket, and board ID options in the vmx file. Fixed by manually editing the vmx file.

If I want to exit before this long wait, I have to Force Quit the application to get out. After restarting the application, I cannot Delete the virtual machine unless I've first deleted the newly created .vmwarevm file on the drive.

vmware_addons package contains vmware_video driver. You can try to temporarily remove vmware_addons and reboot to see if vesa driver allows you to set 3072x1920. If not, then you need to add this resolution to vmware_video:

Tip: If you right click\double finger tap either the vmwarevm file or the VMware Fusion App file you can use the Show Package Contents to display the file(s) contained within. This will help you find the path to files required for the above commands:

According to these announcements from VMware, you will only be able to run macOS as a guest on an Intel based Mac. You may not be able to run macOS Ventura, but it would seem that you can continue to run Mac OS X Server 10.5 and 10.6, OS X 10.7-10.11 and macOS 10.12-12.x - right up to MacOS Monterey. On Apple silicon macs you will not be able to have a macOS guest at all. This seems deliberate given that competitors and new market entrants have already started shipping just such capabilities. It is not for me to reason why but I imagine that development resources versus revenue plus Apple policy complexities or even possibly Apple competitive products on the horizon have a part to play in this decision from VMware. It is very disappointing. (I have no inside knowledge - just speculation). What is jarring to me though, is that Windows will be supported by VMware Fusion for the most recent release, for both processor architectures, but macOS will be left behind on Apple silicon based Mac computers.
