Has anyone eaten at Buddy’s barbeque?  Their website says “All of our products are gluten free with the exception of buns, cookies, hushpuppies, onion rings, chocolate fudge cake, and lemon pie.”

But when I called two different locations, I got two very different answers.

Thanks for any help you may have!

I eat there 2 or 3 times a month, usually the one in Bearden.

A few years ago, I spoke with someone in their corporate office who was knowledgeable about gluten and gluten ingredients.  He told me then the only things that would be safe were the pulled pork (without sauce), corn on the cob, and bags of chips (Lay's).

So when I eat there, that's all I'll get.  I take my own sauce; occasionally, I'll take my own slaw.  I have not tried any of the other side items (slaw, beans, etc.) or any of the other meats.

Steve

P.S.  I don't think the fries have a dedicated frier; they might even be in the same holding/warming bin as the hushpuppies and onion rings.  But I could be wrong about this.

The one in Maryville does not have dedicated fryer so we steer clear of that too. We were told the sauce was gluten free. Cory has eaten there several times wih no problem. He gets the hawgback baked potato with pork and loves it!

I don't think any of them have a dedicated fryer.  I bet if we all let corporate know that a dedicated fryer is an important addition, they would probably work on that request.  They are a local, family-owned company and are wonderful people who aim to please.  As for Buddy's sauce, I don't know if they would be up for changing that recipe since it's been in the family forever.  But they might add a GF option.  I love that chain and so do my GF kids, so I would love to be able to go back there easily.

I have eaten there MANY times. No problems at all. I get the pulled chicken and have the BBQ sauce.

Can't speak for their sides though as we usually do take home and I make my own stuff.

My son has gotten sick from the green beans before.  I believe it was cc so we don't eat there any more.

Thank you for the responses.  I spoke with three different managers and one told me that Buddy’s was working on the GF menu and if something was posted on the website, she would go with that.  She said they are very careful about keeping it accurate and the information has probably not made it to the individual restaurants.  It appears that each restaurant had different information because it was the products that each restaurant had confirmed themselves.

So after talking to the manager and the responses here, I decided to try it.  I had pulled pork with the sauce and some slaw and have done fine.

The manager did recommend asking for the manager to fix my meal, which he did.

Thanks for the help here!  It made a difference!

We have learned- the hard way- to always ask for the manager and go from there when we eat out. I am glad you had a good experience.
