1. What was the purpose of going on the gluten-free diet? Celiac disease
2. How long after going on the diet did you see results? Less than a day
3. If you saw results, were they negative or positive results? Positive- I gained weight & began feeling better
4. How old is the person that went on the diet- 42 now, 35 when diagnosed
5. Was the diet worth it? absolutely
6. What was the greatest benefit of going on the diet? I feel like it actually saved my life because of the severe weight loss I had been experiencing.
7. What was the biggest drawback of the diet? Difficulty in eating in restaurants
8. Did you try going off the diet? If so, what changes did you see? Never intentionally ingested gluten after going on the diet although I have accidentally, and had diarrhea and pain right away.
9. On a scale of 1-10, how big were the changes you saw? 10
10. Have you see major improvements in your health? Yes, I gained weight & feel better overall

I am answering for my 15 year old son Dylan

1- Celiac Disease
2-really noticed big changes within a few months
3-all positive
4- diagnosed at age 10 and started GF immediately
5-YES
6- no stomach pain, no nausea, no migraines, no feeling bad all the time
7- getting used to others not knowing about Celiac and having to explain
why you can't eat the cookies, pizza, etc.
8- never been tempted to go off GF diet- not worth the pain
9- 10
10- yes - started gaining weight, feeling better overall

1. What was the purpose of going on the gluten-free diet?  I was originally diagnosed as having a food allergy to wheat, barley, rye and oats.  The allergist did not send me to be scoped but recommended that I stay away from these.
2. How long after going on the diet did you see results?  6 months or so.  I felt worse before I felt better.
3. If you saw results,  were they negative or positive results?  Positive; felt like I was going to live.
4. How old is the person that went on the diet  32 years old
5. Was the diet worth it?  Yes
6. What was the greatest benefit of going on the diet?  Opened up a whole new world of foods that I didn't know existed.
7. What was the biggest drawback of the diet?  There were 2:  1.  Having to bake everything for myself and 2.  the misunderstanding of family and friends, especially those who know how to cook and use flour in their cooking on a regular basis.
8.  Did you try going off the diet?  If so, what changes did you see?  I haven't really tried going off of the diet, but have unknowingly fallen off of it a couple of times.  The changes I've seen are a foggy headache that lasts for days, and my hives and eczema come back.  Usually I feel better after a couple of days and try to be more wiser in my choices.
9. On a scale of 1-10, how big were the changes you saw?  10
10.  Have you see major improvements in your health?  Yes.  My main problems before going gluten free were breaking out in hives for no real reason, could not get pregnant (had a partial hysterectomy when I was 29), and had lots of cavities as a kid.  The minor problems I had included headaches, nausea, dizziness, some diarrhea and constipation.  I'm sure I'm forgetting more minor problems that I had over the years.  I think my personality changed for the better also.

1. What was the purpose of going on the gluten-free diet? I had severe stomach issues and had seen an allergy doctor and found out I had a dairy and corn allergy. I did a 2 week elimination test that still didn't fix all my concerns. I had about given up. My son had an appointment with the gastro Dr and found out he had celiac. I thought, hmm... maybe that is what wrong with me (my problems first started when I was pregnant with him) after eliminating gluten and the other allergies I was almost better.
2. How long after going on the diet did you see results? It took my son about 2 weeks, it took me about 6 weeks to be completely symptom free
3. If you saw results, were they negative or positive results? positive
4. How old is the person that went on the diet My son went on the diet when he was 4, I was 30
5. Was the diet worth it? completely worth it!
6. What was the greatest benefit of going on the diet?I have energy, I am not sick every day, I have normal bowel movements
7. What was the biggest drawback of the diet? Not eating gluten and getting my family to understand the importance of the gluten free diet
8. Did you try going off the diet? If so, what changes did you see? Yes, stomach issues became just as bad as before, muscles would lock up, headaches, dizziness, fatigue

Have you see major improvements in your health?yes, I had been told I could be diagnosed with Fibromyalga if I wanted my Doctor to diagnose me with it (I refused to be diagnosed with something that can't be improved). My son was finally potty trained 3 months after going on the diet (he has some growth delays and is behind but, with the celiac he couldn't control his bowel movements and therefore didn't try to potty train) Pretty much... I went from not hardly functioning as a human to being fully functional again.

6. felt completely normal for the first time in almost 20 yrs! (no more
migraines, no more muscle/joint/bone aches and pains, no more g.i. issues,
no more 'fog' (improved concentration, ability to process information -
receptively and expressively), no more fatigue, no more low blood sugar,
much more nutritious diet)
7. figuring out what was and was not gluten free; finding gf products
that were tolerable and not too expensive (mostly just ate easy to digest
proteins, fruits and vegetables)
8. not on purpose. When I've accidentally gotten gluten, I have gotten
very 'foggy' - great difficulty holding onto information and responding to
ppl,experienced significant fatigue, stomach upset

To see whether it would diminish my migraine headaches. About a month after being on the diet, I was test by the GI doctor and celiac was confirmed through genetic testing and confirmation of symptoms.

No more trips to the ER for out-of-control migraines and also the headaches are GONE!! I had them since I was 20!

Difficulty going on vacation and eating out. Accidentally being served food with gluten in it and becoming VERY SICK and losing days of vacation. And, every meal out becomes an unwanted ritual of educating and dealing with the servers, etc about what I can and cannot eat. There are gluten-like proteins in traditionally classified gluten-free foods, including rice, corn, oats, etc. Many who have problems with wheat gluten also have problems with these foods too. I am grain free, except for small portions and infrequent portions of 100% buckwheat and quinoa.
 
8. Did you try going off the diet? If so, what changes did you see?

No other changes, but I have MANY other health issues -- some of which (I believe) are the result of having undiagnosed celiac for so long. Bacterial overgrowth, rapid transit of food, poor absorption of nutrients, candida overgrowth in gut and more.

5. Was the diet worth it? It has its drawbacks, but overall yes.
6. What was the greatest benefit of going on the diet? I didn't have to stop eating my food after a few bites, and I could enjoy eating again.
7. What was the biggest drawback of the diet? Not being able to fit in and eat junk food like a normal kid. I constantly have to tell my friends I can't accept any of the food they are offering. Another thing is that some restaurants claim to have GF food but it is just awful, and I end up getting very frustrated.
8. Did you try going off the diet? If so, what changes did you see? I once ate a hot dog with a bun a month after being diagnosed. The result was an awful stomach ache much worse than any others I had gotten.

several months (abdominal distress) to a year (mood stabilized and
better concentration)

absolutely
6. What was the greatest benefit of going on the diet?
Having my life back! I was in and out of e.r.s once a month or more before.

You have to get used to a different way of eating. Instead of finding
substitutes for bread etc, it's better to just try new foods, like
curries, that are naturally gluten free. It's also important to get
enough fiber.
8. Did you try going off the diet? If so, what changes did you see?
Accidentally, multiple times. UTI within 24 hours, fatigue, loss of
concentration, night sweats, back pain, abdominal discomfort, anxiety.

10 - huge

Having to eat different. Having to try new foods.

Accidentally ingested wheat..immediate stomach ache, vomitting, bad headache, dark circles under eyes again.

10-major difference

Yes! Actually gaining weight, growing and no dark circles under eyes. Now 11 yrs. old..4'2" and finally 60 lbs. (Over coming "failure to thrive") :)
