Hello, Evryone,
My daughter and I had breakfast at Denny's today. They have Glutino's English muffins, and they are wonderful. They aren't anything like English muffins except that they are round, But they are wonderfully good. They are soft and fluffy, crisp on the outside. They could easily be used for a hamburger bun. It appears that Denny's butters them then grills them on both sides. Denny's has reworked their menu and has GF by every item that is GF, plus the calories are listed by each item.

Meetcha at Denny's!

Holly

That’s great to hear.  Hopefully, this will be the case for all Denny’s everywhere.  It would make road trips easier.

BTW, I just received this info from Leah McGrath (Ingle’s) about a GF vendor fair in Asheville (on Saturday Oct. 31 from 7 am until 3 pm) for anyone interested in hopping over the mountain:

hello all,  Just wanted to give you an update.  We have pretty much gotten all the details organized for our Asheville GF Expo.  Just waiting now for our MAHEC site to go live so doctors/nurses/dietitians etc can register for credit.

(Please note that we are starting this event early in the morning (registration at 7am) under the advisement that we would attract more physicians to the program and one of our goals is to get more physicians educated about celiac disease. )

We would GREATLY appreciate it if you could share the ticket link with your members. Ticket prices will be higher at the door!  We are very excited to have Dr. Green as our keynote and think that people will also enjoy our other speakers and vendors.

It sounds really great Holly, but does the chef there know to grill those English muffins in a designated place so that there is no cross contamination?? I would love to go to Denny's!! Where is there one in Knoxville??

I have found the Glutino's GF English Muffins at my (Kingsport) Wal-mart freezer aisle~ $5 for 4.

Holly is right that they are more like hamburger buns than English muffins. PLUS they contain soy, eggs and milk to which my daughter is also allergic. http://www.glutino.com/products/bagels-donuts-english-muffins/english-muffins/premium-english-muffins/ (We can't take the risk of her getting exposed to milk as it means using an epi-pen and going to the hospital.) Unfortunately, most of Glutino's GF products contain soy. I've written to Glutino with my concern (They don't need to use soy as it can be easily replaced!), but no reply.

I too would be concerned that there would be some cross-contamination if they are not grilled in a dedicated cooking surface.

By the way, Schar makes excellent GF bread. The formulation used in Europe does NOT contain soy. The American version does contain soy protein. Wrote to them also and got a "so sorry" reply. Why must american consumers be second class citizens when it comes to food?

Hi, All,
I stopped at Kroger's in Sevierville on Monday. They have Glutino's English Muffins in the freezer. They cost just over $6. for a 16.9 ounce package that has 6 muffins. The muffins are split, but are thick enough to slice horizontally. They are very filling, but also sooooo delicious and they hold together perfectly. I don't get to Kroger very often so I bought 3 packs. How long have these been around?
My husband and I went back to Denny's yesterday. He asked where I wanted to go for my birthday. I'm such a cheap date! I actually had a hamburger on an English muffin that is so like really good bread, hot and toasty ...I ate every last bite! Made my birthday less painful.
Best to all,
Holly

Aiubreys have a gf hamburger. I could not believe they had gf buns. I get the Glutinos English muffins at Walmart in the freezer section for $5.

You should google Pure Knead bread. I only found it at one Kroger in Knoxville (market place on Cedar Bluff) but their bread and hamburger buns are to die for. It is the closest to real bread that I have had yet. Not sure about the ingredients though.

We love Pure Knead bread and buns.   It is hard to find. The kroger in fountain city has it sometimes and the kroger in seiverville carries.

Can confirm that the Kroger on Chapman does not sell it and neither does the Kroger on Kingston closest to ut campus. That list may mean they are getting it or could get it, but currently I know neither of those two carry it.

Bread $5.79

This is an excellent article about the upcoming GF Fair in Asheville. (BTW Posana Restaurant off Pack Square just north of Mast General Store is short if fabulous!)
