A festa do perdão

Posted: 16 Dec 2014 05:00 PM PST

"The Blood of Life"

December 17, 2014

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

The nine travelers in New Guinea were sharing a taxi; they also shared something else.

They shared a not-so-pleasant experience. During their journey the taxi was stopped, and robbers stole everything of value from the travelers. That's right! The thieves took the wallets, the jewelry, and even the cell phones of the nine.

Oh, the thieves also took a cooler bag from one of the taxi riders.

Does that story seem like there must have been "a slow day at the news office"? Well, things change when you realize what was inside that bag. The cooler contained vials of blood that were on their way to the lab to be tested. Preliminary evidence had the experts believing those vials of blood would have tested positive for Ebola.

Now if those criminals, in ignorance, pour out those vials to see if they contain anything of value, they may get more than they bargained for. In so doing they will have exposed themselves to a particularly nasty illness: an illness which could easily take their lives.

Yes, these thieves have in their possession blood which can kill.

In contrast, I pray you have in your possession blood which can give life.

Understand, the blood about which I am speaking is most exceptional. This blood was shed 2,000 years ago on a Roman cross, which had been erected outside the city limits of Jerusalem. On that cross hung God's innocent Son, our Savior.

Many years before that event took place, the Triune God had looked with pity on His disobedient, sinful children. Feeling sorry for them, He promised He would send a Savior who would take their place.

In the Person of Jesus Christ, God kept that promise.

During His life, Jesus took our place as He resisted Satan's temptations. He took our place as He kept God's laws perfectly. Then, having done everything else that was necessary, He went to His death and shed His blood. On the cross, Jesus took our place and died the death that was part of the punishment we had earned for our transgressions.

Although the picture of the Innocent dying for the guilty is a sad and sorry one, there is good news. Three days after Jesus' lifeless body was placed into a borrowed grave, He conquered death and rose from the dead.

The living Lord Jesus is proof that His work has been accepted, and now all who are brought to faith in Him as Savior are granted forgiveness and given eternal life. As John told the early church, it is proof that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us of all sin.

In short, Jesus has shed for us the blood which gives life.

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, I give thanks for the good news that says You have created and completed the plan of salvation, which forgives and saves. May I always be grateful for the Savior who willingly shed His blood so I might live. In Jesus' Name I ask it. Amen.

Humildade para ser ajudado

Posted: 18 Dec 2014 05:00 PM PST

"In God's Hands"

December 19, 2014

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

The salvation story of Jesus Christ reaches around the world. So that the readers of our Daily Devotion may see the power of the Savior on a global scale, we have asked the volunteers of our International Ministry Centers to write our Friday devotions. We pray that the Spirit may touch your day through their words.

In Christ, I remain, His servant and yours,
Kenneth R. Klaus
Speaker Emeritus of The Lutheran Hour

When you learn how to leave things in the hands of God, everything begins to fall into place and starts to make sense.

My friends, you should know it is not by chance or coincidence that I have been connected to Lutheran Hour Ministries. In Spanish, we say something is "Diosidencia." That means the event was not an accident. No, to those who will see with eyes of faith, there is evidence the Lord's hand is always involved with anyone who is called to faith and salvation.

Now I am not saying the Lord ever robs us of our free will; on the other hand, Diosidenicia, or "God's incidence" says that He is there, wishing to share His plan and purpose for each of us.

When I began to be part of LHM-Nicaragua, it was because they offered me a chance to do my school internship with them. At the beginning I was motivated by little more than curiosity. But then things began to change. My curiosity turned to enthusiasm, as I saw how the Lord was using the Gospel message to change the lives of my countrymen.

Along the same line, when I began working with Lutheran Hour Ministries, my knowledge about Jesus Christ was not very thorough; some might say it was almost "zero." Most certainly, I had no passion for proclamation of my Lord and Savior. Then, when I began participating in the devotions that are publicly shared by the LHM office, the Holy Spirit touched my heart and brought me into a new relationship with the Savior.

Almost without realizing, I found myself having a desire to know more about my Lord Jesus.

Once again, this all is not an accident. Most clearly, I can see how the Lord has touched me. That process began when I became a volunteer. Back then the Holy Spirit put faith in my heart, and now that I am a staff person He has given me an eagerness to share with others how Jesus Christ, God's Son, was born into this world to seek and save the lost. I often speak about sin and how the Savior came to rescue us from sin's punishment.

Today I can see the miracle the Lord worked in my heart is being repeated in the lives of others. Their lives are being transformed, even as mine has been. Like me, they are becoming totally different because of the spiritual intervention of the Holy Spirit.

Like I said at the beginning, God has plans and purposes for each one of us, and the success of our futures are dependent on knowing the Lord Jesus as Savior. Knowing that, how can we stop ourselves from telling others about Christ's victory over sin, the devil, and death?

After all, you just never know when the Lord is going to use you to be part of one of His Diosidencias.

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I ask You to continue to guide my life. Stay with me in all I do and send the Holy Spirit to bless the sharing of the Gospel in Nicaragua and every country of the globe. This I ask in Jesus' Name. Amen.
