Good to see it's April 2022 and there is still no way to simply add a date to a W-9 form using a program literally called "Fill & Sign". Let me summarize the following thread for you: Some Adobe guy named Sandeep from the Engineering Dismissive Hall of Fame spectacularly says "This is 'AsDesigned' behavior" and then arrogantly clicks "Resolved". See how good I am, boss? I resolved this thing people still can't fix since before the Winter Games 2018. Two years before the pandemic this problem arose, and Adobe's phenomenal software we all pay thru the nose for every month, is completely outmatched by IRS technology. There is no patch workaround they can just paste over the date form, see. Knowing Adobe, I can't believe they haven't launched an entire new product around this. See how legendarily helpful Sandeep's reply was? Good thing to know we all haven't wasted hours of our day trying to figure this out because everyone has a broken printer and this is all we can do to get that next freelancing gig. So down the thread someone claims if you save it 3x you can launch "Fill and Sign" and the "Fill" part will actually work. I'll try that next because I have no choice.
HOW TO FIX IT:
RIGHT CLICK ON THE BAR WHERE YOU CAN SELECT THE TEXT, CROSS, ETC.. SELECT "SHOW ALL LABELS" THEN THE "CHANGE COLOR" OPTION WILL BE DISPLAY,AND YOU CAN CHANGE THE COLOR TO BLACK OR ANY OTHER COLOR YOU MIGHT WANT.
Omg... this is the worst app I've ever used in my entire life I have one day to get six pages of dialog into a VA form and I could have handwritten it by now I get to about the third line of text and all of a sudden it just disappears and page 2 blank pops up .. I am so over this piece of s*** app
By the way, for the "admin" amukherj - "such a problematic pdf" - you mean one of the most common PDFs where it never used to be a problem? Seriously? Do you hear yourselves? Go talk to the IRS, or better yet - reexamine a product that you've designed, because there are serious usability issues if 99% of the forms don't aren't designed with enough meticulous perfection that they are usable after you adjust your software to render said forms virtually unusable without some ridiculous, time-consuming, onerous work-around hack. Seriously. What is wrong with you guys? Do you listen to a single concern of your users? Or do you just continue to see THEM as the problem? I'm starting to feel like there isn't a company on the planet that is better suited to being displaced than the arrogance coming out of you people.
How wonderful that, in typical fashion, adobe literally couldn't care less that they've massively broken a frequently used feature and are blithely dismissing it without a second thought. Thanks "Sandeep" for demonstrating Adobe's continued excellence in screwing over their users. I couldn't be more enthusiastic about finding another solution.
1. Fill out the form as much as you can including signing it.
2. Save a pdf
3. Open the saved pdf and click the print icon
4. When the print options open up, in the "printer" option select "Microsoft Print to PDF" then print it.
5. It'll give you an location to save the new pdf
6. Open this new pdf and click the fill & sign option. Now you should have the ab cursor.
Was facing the same issue just today - able to insert signature, but unable to see text entered. Just noticed that the color option on the top of the page was suddenly showing white/or no color. Just selected black, all's well now.
Not sure if that is the case for you folks, but perhaps, worth a try!
We have this issue as well and it is very frustrating. Acrobat XI had none of these issues. Having to Print the signed form to the desktop, open it up, sign it and copy it back over the top of the existing document is not a solution that can be used long term. Adobe charge a lot for this product and it is clearly broken. Our engineering forms need to be signed by multiple people before we can send them to our customers.
For us all we are doing is converting the report from a word doc to a PDF. The first person signs it (Lock form not selected) but consecutive signatures after that will not. Option to sign is locked.

The form was designed in Livecycle but when I open it in V9 it will NOT allow me to enable extended features, this has been working just fine for a decade or more and is now becoming a headache, I do not need to "Distribute Forms" as such as they are sent out individually upon request and sent back to me as email attachments
Then saved once dates are edited for different events as a Static PDF each with a new file name ( I have tried Dynamic and found that for whatever reason most people have issues with opening the file using older & newer versions of acrobat reader) This is Bye the bye no not terribly relevant
It says that the form can not be Reader enabled and no matter how I try it will not allow this to happen.( Even when created with a new file name instead of overwriting the existing file like I have been doing for a decade )
What annoys me most is that there is little reason to make this version incapacitated as it basically forces a user to go to a subscription based "Updated Version" with a not insignificant ongoing cost forever and a day.
