As I punched out of Inheritance with only R$ upgrades, I was irritated and I started to think of what was making me feel this way about the game. Quite simply the game isn't "Real" in any sense of the word. A bit of background on me. I actually race cars for fun and use iRacing and rFactor to learn tracks and test set-ups, so this game is just for fun for me during downtime. But the lack of realism is starting to bother me (and frankly make me think I should stop playing so as to not develop some really really bad habits that might get me killed).

Don't get me wrong, big props to the guys (?) (e.g., ME7, RR Speed Junkie, ....) that have figured out how to crack this game, but it seems to me that if this is going to be "REAL" Racing 3 it should be a bit more real.

2. A semi-realistic grip model: It can't be REAL that if I have 1 inch of inside (i.e., de-weighted) tire on the track that I have full grip and there is little to no effect of having part or all of one of my tires on a surface with vastly different rolling resistence (ie stuff that would normally make you put in a real fight for control or put you in the wall/runout).

3. No more dumb challenges: Going against traffic in a race on anything less than a red flag really isn't that bright. I get that FM needs their gold, but just make me pay it up front in upgrades to get the car and finish all challanges. LTS are fine.

4. End or reduce bot management: I get why the do this, but there has to be a better way. It's really boring to drive as slow as you can and still win. Maybe for newer drivers have an easy mode with a lower GC payout.

5. A "smart" throttle and brakes: In reality throttles and brake levels are not binary (e.g., trail braking). There is no way around this given a tablet/phone input so this would have to stay as is but it would be cool if we could program how our smart throttles and braking work and see some sort of representation of levels.

In fact, this implementation would make the game easier, and WTTT to be easier, because the hard part to be a super driver is the ability to drive with 1 inch of your tier on track in corners....

Dumb challenges are, in my opinion, simply a way to fill out the rest of the monotony. To your point, however, the drag races are "dumb challenges" and have to go. They're useless, except to allow for more tiers/races so the series are consistent with the current model.

Bot management also has to go. The system is incredibly archaic. If you cannot advance due to not being able to pass and/or catch up, then you need more practice (or more gold ffs...another issue entirely...).

Great point, and I've always thought this is one of the harshest realities. Throttle/brakes are either full on or completely off. NO trail-braking, NO throttle feathering. Of course, I've learned how to tap in order to simulate holding a steady speed when necessary, but it is not usually favorable. Also, no choice but automatic transmission is another issue which frustrates me to no end. Again, I've had to learn to adapt to it. Waiting for one more downshift/upshift before accelerating is terrible, especially when I know if I could just hang out in 4th and lift a little, my times would be much better, considering I would be able to manage slow in/fast out more efficiently. I think a slider system for the throttle/brake would certainly be possible and not very difficult to encode.

Real Racing 3's success as a game is that it is visually stunning, often makes you forget you are not running a sim and can generate these kinds of discussions, from a mobile game. I remember PC racing games from 15-20 years ago that cannot hold a candle to this, even with a wheel and pedals.

It'd be still the current people in group A even if they introduced realism into tires being off/on track. Racing lines, break points are still decisive. It wouldn't magically shift the balance of WTTT where people who weren't even in gold groups are suddenly there.

2. Agreed, I stay on track at all times. Except if improving my WTTT placing or hitting a target in an SE with few upgrades requires otherwise. If it were impossible to get better results and everyone had to stay on track it would indeed be better for the game imo (some targets would have to be lowered to make up for stricter racing).

4. That's your own fault. You don't have to slow the bots (I don't either). Plus the fact that you said you'd rather pay up and get it over with in point 3 would eliminate the need for bot slowing completely.

5. New devices do have pressure sensitive touchscreens. However, FM won't just cut off all players who don't have one of those devices at this point, and probably never in RR3. Maybe in the distant future, think RR4 or later, when all mobile devices will have the necessary technology.

6. I'm indifferent about that, I don't have any trouble making an assessment about braking points as I go. Obviously the first few times on a specific track you'll need to be careful, just like in real life.

Regarding the term REAL, the app description states Real Cars, Real Tracks, Real Opponents / People. I agree with a lot of the "issues" here too, but this is just a video game for phones and tablets. Make it too realistic and it would turn away the casual players. For what it is, it's a very good video game.

And recommendations on a sim racing set up for home use?

After looking I've run across everything from a few hundred to over 100k. Any thoughts or insights into something that will cost less than actual racing but not a complete was of time and money will be greatly appreciated.

If it matter I am running sprint karts at this time, Birel LO206 to be specific but I also have 125 stock Honda shifter and a CRG Rotax kart I hope to run after more time and mastery of the 206,

Y'all have a nice day.

You can try clearing memory: Double-press the HOME button. Flick each of the apps displayed up to kill it and free the memory it is using. When you have finished wtih all of the apps reset the iPhone by holding HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears.

If you have tried EVERYTHING then it will never work again. So you might as well give up. But on the offchance that EVERYTHING did not include everything, why don't you tell us specifically what you have done? For example, have you tried closing the app from the Quick Launch screen? Have you tried deleting the app, rebooting, and downloading it again?

Obviously this has something to do with version but everytime I try and download it again, the app store ALWAYS pulls it from the iCloud. I have tried deleting it from the iCloud but all of the data never is erased. So to be honest, I really haven't "truly" deleted the app. So I can assume that's part of the issue also.

Once I'd spent $60 and could go no further without spending more, I stopped playing; $60 was my limit. I did keep my iCloud save game file in case I wanted to revisit it someday. That someday was yesterday.

Since I left, the game has grown a lot: There are now 171 cars available, or 39 more than when I stopped playing. To finish the game again, I'd need to acquire (and upgrade) all of those cars (and race a huge number of new races). I thought "maybe it's OK to spend another $60 or so; it's been a few years."

That's a full console-based driving setup, including a 65" 4K TV, for less than what I'd probably have to pay to finish (temporarily, until the next expansion) Real Racing 3. Yes, I'd say that's ridiculous.

Like most all "free" iOS games, in-game currency is required to actually get things done in RR3. And like other free iOS games, you can win the in-game currency by playing the game, or you can buy it with real world dollars.

Gold coins are much harder to earn, as you only get them for completing portions of racing events within a racing series, and for certain other special activities. Here was my reward for finishing a portion of an event in the NASCAR series, for example:
