This post is for those with Canadian/Ontario student loans.
Anyone looked into the RLIRP or started the application process?
I got mail from the NSLSC stating that I have to start repaying my loans at the end of July.....I don't want to.
This is what I know:
Under the RLIRP, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC), in partnership with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, provides eligible Ontario medical residents with relief from making monthly payments (interest and principal) on Canadian government student loans (provincial and federal) during their residency period.
Successful applicants are issued a Medical Resident Loan (MRL) from Ontario which is used to pay off their federal and provincial/territorial government student loans.
During the Ontario medical residency, MOHLTC pays the interest on the participant’s MRL, and the participant is not required to make payments on principal.
The catch is you have to sign a return of service (5 years) which states you will practice medicine in Ontario (anywhere).... and this can be done concurrently with the ROS we already have to sign (which is more restrictive).
Any thoughts, issues, concerns?
