Got this from western today, maybe I missed the boat, but have others been told they can't sign orders?

As an International Medical Graduate you are required to complete an Assessment Verification Period (AVP) in the first 12 weeks of your residency.

The initial Assessment portion of this period is two weeks in length and your rotation supervisor will provide a detailed assessment for that 2 week period. There is also a form which the program director must complete based on that 2 week assessment. It will confirm that you are functioning at the level of a first year resident.

It is extremely important that you are aware that until it has been verified that you are functioning at that level, you may not sign for any orders. All of your orders must be co-signed up to the point that the verification has been completed.

The Assessment Period will also include assessment which will be done at the 8 week point and the 12 week point. These will be over and above the usual evaluations that are part of the rotation.  I have included the final assessment form which outlines this.

We will ensure that the supervisors involved have the appropriate information for completion of the required documents for your assessment and will keep you informed as these are completed.

The next block is starting this weekend, so please confirm that you have received this email (by simply responding to it) and also let me know if you have any questions about this.

I haven't heard anything of this sort. But, it will become clear over the coming few days.
Happy Canada day and wish you a lovely long weekend and successful residency everyone.

Hi phil

I read the avp guidelines a few weeks ago and it basically said that the institutions can decide for themselves whether they ask us to co-sign our orders. They can ask you to have them co signed for the entire twelve weeks!

My advice is to keep your head down, smile and nod for the first twelve weeks.

I just signed my first bit of orders today. Some of them weren't cosigned and as far as I know those patients did end up getting the investigations ordered. So it probably is program dependent.

Hope y'all survived your first day.

Happy Canada Day!!!
