Hey all,

not sure if anyone had a chance to yet, but I finally logged into the
OMA website (my password had to be reset, I called them and it was
really easy).

Go to programs and services > OMA advantages > communications > and
then under wireless communications you can chose from telus or rogers.
The agent from OMA was saying that telus appears to offer a better
deal. I haven't read all the specific details but they do mention that
you can't be an existing customer. But the deals seem pretty sweet!

Just to keep it all in the same thread

On another note, I checked the Telus plan for OMA members. It does
look sweet but has some catches:
1. It's a very binding three years contract.
2. It comes to about 60 dollars a month before tax
3. International text messages not included
I would suggest you take a look at Koodo, which is a company owned by
Telus. Their canada wide plans are really nice and you get
international texting included plus flexible data which charges you
according to your usage, or you can go for a 2 GB monthly allowance
from the start.
The best thing is that all this is canada wide, meaning that you can
place your call from anywhere to anywhere in canada and still be
charged at the local rate. Moreover, there is no contract and you can
modify or cancel your plan at any time !
I am with them since last December. I won't be getting a commission if
any of you joins !

So I've been comparing the two plans a little more closely, here are
some interesting things. The OMA plan is 20 per month, this includes a
few perks that other companies may charge extra for (like voice
messaging). 911, etc which other places may charge more for (an extra
5 dollars sometimes for each little service). Unlimited txting,
unlimited telus to telus, caller ID blah blah. The data plan is
another 30... and here is the kicker, it gives you 6 GB. This seems
excess but the main advantage to this is tethering, which means as
long as you can access 3G network, you could access internet from your
computer (there is an app for this, or you can buy something for it).
But even still, it may be way more than necessary and I don't really
see why OMA would try and negotiate for that... any thoughts?

The three year contract is binding as Shiraz pointed out, however it
seems it generally will include a phone, I personally have an iphone
4... so I don't care too much for that, I'll still get a new phone and
have to rid of the old I guess?

Koodo is 50 bucks for unlimited minutes anywhere in canada! but... 50
txt messages (for 5 bucks extra is unlimited) . Data plan of 500 is 15
dollars extra, and 2 GB is 25 extra. So I see it as about 50 + 5 (for
unlimited txt messaging) + 25 = 80

My other concern is that the reception of koodo may not be as good as
telus? Shiraz any thoughts? I plan on taking the koodo plan to NexGen
on King and see the lady there can convince me, she seemed pretty good
at laying at the details, not pushy. will keep you posted!

Hello all,

A couple additions to the discussion.

You can add "across-Canada" calling for $15/month to the Telus plan (which I will likely do to keep in touch with family in Toronto while I'm in London for the next 5 years).  This would bring the total for the plan to $65 (a little pricey) but you could barely want for anything more!

I feel the real advantage that Telus has over Koodoo (which Phil alluded to) is the incredible 6GB data package.  The ability to tether your laptop or tablet/iPad anywhere you can pick up the network is a huge selling feature.

With respect to network coverage, it's should be the same as Koodoo uses Telus' 4G network.

Hope this helps.

Hi everyone
Thanks Phil for putting the thread together.
Koodo uses Telus's network, so no issues there. It's very decent coverage.
I'm not sure if they have 4G, though?
My main concern is that the Telus plan for the OMA is a very long 3 years, during which a lot can and will change in the plans market and one will remain stuck with it.
It also says that if the subscriber loses his employment (for which he got the offer) he MUST continue with the contract WITH THE UNDISCOUNTED rate. AVP thoughts anyone?
