Firthsaid the space festival will offer several different events throughout the week including a "Space Race" to Spaceport America bike tour, an open house at Spaceport America, art exhibitions and plenty of special guest speakers.
According to the Las Cruces Space Festival's website, registration for the Spaceport America open house which launches the festival on Sunday, April 7, has now been running for one month with over 500 vehicles signed up to join. Registration will close on April 4.
Missions at the Challenger Learning Center are now open for registration. There will be seven missions available throughout the festival and advanced registration is required as places are limited to 30 per mission. Missions are recommended for children aged eight and up, according to the website.

Info: Open house showcase of current and future activities at Spaceport America. Up to 50 planes will be allowed to fly in for the open house at the world's first purpose-built commercial spaceport. Free entertainment for the whole family will include meet the teams from Spaceport America and Virgin Galactic, look out for drone and radio-controlled plane demonstrations, opportunities to build and launch small rockets, guest speakers, a mass-participation space dance space arcade machines, space games and much more! Food will also be available to purchase on site. Spaceport America CEO Dan Hicks and Very Large Array Operations Director, Mark McKinnon, will be giving talks on the latest developments at both facilities.
Advanced registration for the free open house is required with the first 1,200 vehicles confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis. Vehicles must have more than two passengers and no more than eight. The first 600 vehicles will be allowed to park at Spaceport America from 10 a.m. The second wave of 600 vehicles will be allowed in from 12 p.m. The person making the online reservation must be present in the vehicle with a government issued photo ID. Multiple applications are not permitted.

Parking at La Cueva Picnic Area in Dripping Springs presentation by Dr. Chris Churchill, NMSU Astronomy Professor at 7.30 p.m. Up to eight telescopes will be available for use. Opportunity to view constellations and galaxies seen in "Our Place In Space- Las Cruces" exhibition. Only the first 75 vehicles can be accommodated. Gates will be closed after reaching the vehicle limit or by 7.30 p.m. Please car pool where possible.
Info: An evening at the Amphitheater inside White Sands National Monument. A park ranger-led program titled "From the Nursery to the Graveyard: The Life of a Star." Explore the lives of stars and their connection and importance to us here on Earth. Telescope viewing of the moon and deep space objects to follow the program. The program is free, but monument entrance fees still apply. Note: Programs may be canceled due to weather or missile range activities.
