Good Afternoon MEF,
Our next meeting will be held on Monday, August 7 from 11-2 in Okemos (4406 Okemos Rd, Okemos; agenda attached). The featured topic: “All-volunteer board or paid staff: Is your foundation ready to transition?” will be presented by Annherst Kreitz (Executive Director, Saline) and Gary Mescher (Development Director, East Lansing). Each will present how their foundations went through the transition to adding paid staff, how tasks/roles are distributed, and the pros and cons to these arrangements. There will be time to hear from other foundations who have hired staff to fill different roles; let me know if you are willing to contribute. After lunch, there will be a brief presentation by MEF Board President Amy Stuursma on MEF business, followed by time for open discussion. Bring your questions, tips for the group, and anything else you’d like to share.
Lunch: We will place an order from Jimmy Johns at the beginning of the meeting, so please bring cash if you’d like to purchase a sandwich. You are also welcome to bring a bagged lunch.
Let me know by Thursday, August 3 if you plan to attend so that I can have the room set up.
Call or email with any questions. I look forward to seeing you on August 7!
Martha Hentz, Okemos Education Foundation
