Good Morning MEF,
The next meeting of the Michigan Education Foundation (MEF) is scheduled for Monday, December 5 (11-2 in Okemos). We welcome special guest Richard Howard who will speak about his experience at Educational Foundation Consultants where he worked with districts to establish or restart K-12 education foundations. Rich is currently the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters Michigan Capital Region. Per the feedback I received from the group, he will target his remarks on the following topics (listed in priority order):
· Communicating your foundation’s message in your community
· Differentiating foundations from other booster groups and PTAs in your district
· How to establish or restart an annual appeal
· Messaging around public education and the need for philanthropic dollars (Why aren't our tax dollars enough?)
· Recruiting an involved and dynamic board
· Board organization; the benefits of a professional Executive Director
· How a contracted consultant can help an education foundation
Rich will be with us starting at 11:00 am and will continue through our 12:30 lunch. We’ll end the session with further discussion on topics of interest to the group, ending at 2:00. As always, you are welcome to take part in as much of the session as your schedule allows.
Lunch: There will be an optional sandwich/salad bar buffet with the following items:
Sandwich choices, Salad Bar with a variety of toppings and dressings, Beverage and Gourmet Cookies
Cost is $8.00 per person - cash or check to Okemos Public Schools.
The buffet is optional; you can also bring a bagged lunch. Please note that there are no vending machines available in the building.
Please respond (only if you are able to attend the meeting) by Wednesday, November 30 and let me know if you plan to purchase lunch ($8/person). When responding, please include your school district. If you are vegetarian/vegan or gluten-free, please let me know.
