Hello All,
I am in the midst of gathering support for the Jack Petrash visit this
October. I'm e-mailing you because you have signed up on the Cedarwood
Volunteer form as interested in helping with the event or because you
helped with the Rahima Baldwin event this past fall.

We are all really excited for Jack’s visit. He is a really engaging,
funny and insightful speaker. I was lucky to see Jack speak a few
years ago—he is a really dynamic speaker. He’s a really fun—holds
your attention, provides great information and helpful insights to
parenting and Waldorf education. His Friday Lecture will focus on
parenting and is open to the public. Jack is considered a expert
speaker on the subject of fathering and the challenges of being a
Waldorf Dad, has written a great book on fathering and Saturday will
be a Dad’s only workshop.

Here is a bit more about who he is:
JACK PETRASH has over twenty-five years experience as a class teacher
and a teacher of teachers. He currently teaches third grade at the
Washington Waldorf School in Bethesda, MD. He has worked with Waldorf
teacher training in both the US and Canada, and as the director of the
Nova Institute is actively involved in parent education. He is the
author of three books: Understanding Waldorf Education: Teaching from
the Inside Out; Covering Home: Lessons on the Art of Fathering from
the Game of Baseball; and Navigating the Terrain of Childhood. His
commentaries have appeared in the Washington Post and on National
Public Radio.

The Jack Petrash event is schedule for this October

Public Talk: Friday October 8th 7-9pm Parenting as a Path of Self
Development
Focusing on the three stages of childhood and what they ask of
us as parents. In the first stage children ask us to be actively
involved.
In the grade school years they ask for our positive emotional
engagement.
And in adolescence they will resist most of what we think.
At each stage we are called on to work continually on ourselves.

Public Talk: Saturday October 9th 9am-12:30pm Challenges of Being a
Waldorf Dad
This will be a workshop open to Dad’s only.

The save the date flyer is scheduled to go out this week and hopefully
an all school e-mail as well. The registration form and info sheet
are also currently in creation. I hope to have these items up on the
website shortly as well.

Right now I am looking for help in the following areas:
1. Write All School Email about Jack Petrash Visit. (I have the all
school e-mail from the Rahima visit for reference, and all the details
of the visit to provide)
2. Create a postcard for the event (I have postcard from last year’s
Rahima event for reference and all proper details for the card design)
3. Write a Press Release. (I have the Rahima press release for a
reference and information on Jack, his bio and details of his talks to
provide)
4. Distribute Press Release to local and NW news sources such as
Portland Family Magazine ___________________________________
Metro Parent _________________________________________________
Oregonian _________________________________________________
Urban Mommas _________________________________________
T.V. Stations ________________________________________________
etc.
5. Distribute Press Release and/or flyer to the master list of emails
for all Waldorf teachers in Oregon (PAWS), other NW Waldorf Schools,
friends of Cedarwood network, local anthroposophical organizations,
Steiner store, etc

6. Oversee setting up childcare for the Friday night event.

If any of these items call to you please e-mail or call me and I’d be
happy to discuss more specifics. There will be plenty more shortly—but
right now the main focus is getting all collateral together and making
sure the proper waldorfy locations know about the visit. If you have
any specific ideas how you would like to help or have ideas to share
about the event please e-mail or call. I’m totally open to input!

If you would like to be removed from further e-mails about
Volunteering for the Jack Petrash visit please let me know.

Warmly,
Alexa
