Americans Who Tell the Truth Round-Up
Thank you to everyone who came to Robert Shetterly's Americans Who Tell The Truth traveling art exhibition this August, and thank you to our sponsors The Staenberg Group, The Regional Arts Commission, and Dr. Bryan Meyers. Our hope was that by combining art with environmental issues, people could gain a new perspective on how they can incorporate environmental values in their everyday lives and how environmental issues affect all of us, regardless of income, race, or geography. Hundreds of visitors came to our Opening Reception, Annual Meeting, and Chats for Change at The Gallery, and to all of you, we are grateful.

Radiation Exposure Compensation Act Amendment
In late July, the United States Senate adopted an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) introduced by Missouri Senator Josh Hawley. The amendment received bipartisan support with an additional seven cosponsors. The amendment would add twenty zip codes from the St. Louis and St. Charles region into the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) program.
This amendment would extend and expand who can submit compensation claims. For the first time in history, if passed, the Act would cover civilians from the St. Louis region who have been exposed to nuclear processing and waste sites since the beginning of the atomic age. Another component of the Act is a grant program that allows for medical screenings, education, and outreach to the affected communities.
Since the NDAA had already passed in the US House before the Senate added their amendments, a special conference committee made up of select members from both chambers will be held to decide which amendments will be included in the final version of the NDAA. If Senator Hawley's amendment is accepted, the full revised version of the NDAA will have to pass both the US House and Senate before heading to the President's desk to be signed into law.
Once we learn which Representatives and Senators will sit on the special conference committee, we will send out a call to action. Please make sure you're signed up to receive updates from our Hazardous Waste email list.

Our Watersheds of Missouri Story Map is live!
Untreated animal waste in Missouri's watersheds demands our attention. This Story Map sheds light on the issue, illustrating the impact of concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) on each watershed. Share the Story Map with your friends and family and advocate for effective "wasteshed management" policies.
