I'd like to share a recap of the Missouri Democratic Party State Committee meeting that took place on Saturday, August 26. It was an excellent meeting - invigorating and it set the stage for the future of our party in the state.
At the heart of the meeting was the presentation by State Party Chair Russ Carnahan. He unveiled a comprehensive plan that seeks to reestablish the Missouri Democratic Party as a trusted and influential authority in our state's political landscape. The highlights of the plan include:
Statewide Messaging: Chair Carnahan emphasized the importance of a cohesive statewide messaging strategy which led into the following initiatives:
The State Committee also shared preliminary plans for the upcoming presidential primary. During the last legislative session, the GOP supermajority in the MO state legislature made the unprecedented decision to change our presidential preference primary from state-run elections to party caucuses. This regressive move represents the first time any state has taken a step backward in this direction. This decision means that we will hold a presidential caucus next spring, incorporating both in-person and mail-in voting options. There will be more detailed instructions as we approach next spring.
The Democratic National Committee will be held in St. Louis, MO, from October 4th to October 7th. This presents a great opportunity to engage on a national level. They need volunteers! They said they needed 150 volunteers and on Saturday, they had around 60: Volunteer Interest Form |DNC Fall Meeting 2023 (google.com). By the way, there's rumblings that the president and vice-president may attend.
Finally, the MDP annual fundraiser, the Truman Dinner, will be held in conjunction with the DNC meeting on opening night, Wednesday, October 4. As in the past, you can secure your place by purchasing individual dinner tickets or sponsorships at trumandinner.org.
Thank you again for allowing Rob and I to serve as your 28th Senatorial representatives. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to let us know.
