Darrell, as global temperatures skyrocket, our communities are paying the price as hurricanes become even more devastating.   Just weeks ago, Hurricane Lee struck Canada and parts of Maine, knocking out power for over 100,000 and flooding coastal areas.   In August, Hurricane Idalia – a Category 3 storm at landfall – slammed into Florida’s Big Bend area yesterday with maximum sustained winds of 125 mph, bringing flash flooding and a catastrophic storm surge. Hundreds of thousands lost power.  It’s the strongest hurricane to make landfall in that region in over 125 years. This is the climate crisis in action. From Hurricanes Maria and Ida to Michael and Harvey – and now Hurricanes Lee and Idalia – wetter and stronger hurricanes in the past few years have taken an ever-rising toll of deaths, displacements, and billions of dollars in damage.   But it doesn’t have to be this way. Climate Reality is fighting to end the era of fossil fuels that is devastating our communities and our planet.
