Dear all

I hope you are all well.

Can anyone point me to electroacoustic compositions that address women's oppression, domestic labour, or feminist themes as their primary subject matter?

Thanks in advance.

Best wishes

Dear Panos,

A piece that immediately jumps to mind is Jennifer Walshe's XXX_LIVE_NUDE_GIRLS!!!

Another, specifically about/to trans women is Sarah Hennies's Contralto

Hi Panos,

I don’t know how inclusive you’re being, but a collective of women that includes

Creators / performers: Jocelyn Ho, Bree Van Reyk, Rebecca Lloyd-Jones
Instrument makers: Margaret Schedel, Sofy Yuditskaya

creates live performances/installations with electronic instruments under the name “Women’s Labor initiative”

I’ve seen their piece called ‘Housework Commons’ in places, but mostly they just go under Women’s Labor.

Some oldies but  goodies from an oft-forgotten pioneering composer, Jean Eichelberger Ivey : Hera, Hung From the Sky (1973) and Testament of Eve (1976) – both for voice and tape.  These pieces have to do with mythological/biblical mistreatments of women. May not be what you are looking for, however, one could argue that the foundational excuses for abuses of women stem from these very stories (and additionally, Pandora’s Box) and their implications that the sorrows and sadnesses in the world were released by and therefore the fault of women and that these women must be punished for this.
